The Chevrolet Bolt will be the official vehicle for The Electric Vehicle Road Trip (EVRT) Middle East which is scheduled to be held from January 17 to 25 in 2019. The Chevrolet Bolt was launched in the region at The EVRT Middle East 2018 after General Motors made the announcement of the launch at the Dubai International Motor show in 2017.
Commenting on the partnership, Ben Pullen, CEO and Founder of Global Electric Vehicle Road Trip said that he was delighted to have Chevrolet once again as a partner for the EVRT again this year. The Chevrolet Bolt EV is positioned as a game-changer in the EV market as it offers best-in-class 520km range. It can definitely help to dispel common misconceptions among the public that electric vehicles can’t be used to drive long distances.
The partnership between the Chevrolet Bolt and EVRT marks another milestone as the Bolt is now available across the UAE and other markets in the Middle East.
The EVRT Middle East is an eight-day adventure and is essentially a road trip that will cover more than 2,000 km from the UAE to Oman. It will connecting experiential eMobility festivals and thought leadership forums, with the goal of promoting smarter mobility.
On 18 January, the electric fleet will travel 504 kilometers from Abu Dhabi to Muscat, thus allowing the Chevrolet Bolt EV to demonstrate its performance credentials over a long distance and to prove that range anxiety need no longer be a concern.
There has been growing buzz about the benefits of switching to electric vehicles. In the past five years, technological innovations have made it possible to increase the maximum range of electric vehicles from 80 to 600 kilometers and it is now possible to use electric vehicles as a part of our daily life. The UAE has over 370 charging stations, making the country the fifth most densely populated charging destination in the world.
Gary D. West, General Motors’ Head of Future Mobility Middle East, said: “Last year, the EVRT Middle East gave car enthusiasts a first look at our Chevrolet Bolt EV as it was put to the test driving over 1,750km from the UAE to Oman and back. The Chevrolet Bolt EV has proven it can tackle any real-world driving situation and we look forward to welcoming new EVRT Middle East participants this year to experience the car’s outstanding green credentials themselves.”
All participants at The EVRT Middle East Challenge will go head to head to optimize the efficiency and range of the electric vehicles they use on the journey. They will have many opportunities to prove their technical abilities and experience the Chevrolet Bolt EV as they cruise on the drag racing strips at the Yas Marina Circuit, cross the desert, tackle the highest mountain of the UAE and drive on the winding coastal roads overlooking the Gulf of Oman.
