Al-Futtaim Motors, exclusive distributor of Toyota in the UAE, will be providing Emirates Driving Institute (EDI) with two units of Toyota Camry Hybrid. These vehicles will be installed on EDI’s existing Roll Car simulators to demonstrate the safety aspect of using seatbelts during a rollover collision. EDI, is one of the largest institutes for driver training in the UAE and began using simulators to train students in 2007. The simulators are modelled on real life vehicles from which the engine and transmission units have been removed for demonstration purposes.
These Roll car simulators are located at the EDI training institute and will simulate the effect of a rollover collision. This will help budding motorists to understand the dangers of not buckling up. In the simulator, the driver is belted up and held in place in the simulator while it undergoes a 360 degrees roll, thus helping students understand the importance of using seatbelts to minimize the impact of the collision.
Speaking about the simulators, Amer Belhasa, Managing Director of EDI said that the experience-based learning using roll car simulators which will be provided at EDI will highlight the importance of safety equipment in the vehicle, like having drivers and passengers wear seatbelts. He went on to say that the simulators would be taken on a roadshow to be demonstrated at many public events, exhibitions, schools and colleges by the EDI Road Safety team to increase awareness about the importance of seatbelts.
Al-Futtaim Motors and the Emirates Driving Institute had recently signed an agreement as an outcome of which EDI acquired a fleet of 160 Toyota Yaris Sedan vehicles. These vehicles will be used in day-to-day driver training and education.
Speaking of the partnership, Saud Abbasi, Managing Director for Toyota at Al-Futtaim Motors, said: “Al-Futtaim Motors and EDI share a strong evolving partnership, one that centers on offering best-in-class training to students across the country, in turn putting safer, more confident drivers on the road.”
