Since the rousing successes of designing an evening gown for the First Lady of the United States and his work as the principal designer for the 2015 James Bond film Spectre, Tom Ford’s release of the Black Orchid Eau de Toilette is an intriguingly olfactive interpretation of the 2006 classic, the Black Orchid Eau de Parfum. This worthy successor is infused with the tantalizing essence of tuberose blends and the richness of a carefully crafted palette of fruity fragrances.
The Black Orchid Eau de Toilette features a bold, yet sophisticated top note comprising tuberose, blackcurrant, bergamot, and the exceptionally delicate tones of ylang-ylang. Tuberose and Tom Ford’s favored black orchid fragrances form the core of this signature fragrance. The base notes, however, are what truly add complexity and depth to the Black Orchid Eau de Toilette, featuring a classic perfume accord of elements drawn from the legendary perfumers of the orient—patchouli, sandalwood, incense, vetiver, and vanilla.
This distinctive fragrance is dispensed into a matte black fluted bottle that is a reinterpretation of a design that has come to symbolize the charm and panache of the Black Orchid brand. Tom Ford has created what is described as the long-lasting fragrant essence of “the perfect flower – luxurious, elegant, pure and sophisticated.” The perfume’s opening notes are bolder than those of the Eau de Parfum while giving way to equally rich and lingering undertones that lean towards the vanilla essences for five or six hours after first use. Black Orchid Eau de Toilette is available in four volume options—30, 50, and 100 ml, packaged in a matte black and gold-lettered carton.
