BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

The car is a tribute to the 1972 3.0 CSL, a homologation special built model which allowed the BMW E9 series to be eligible for racing in the European Touring Car Championship at that time. Commonly known as the Batmobile, a nickname stemming from the car’s rear wing, the 3.0 CSL is often praised as one of BMW’s most standout and most celebrated variants ever made.

Famed for its success at many historic races, the BMW 3.0 CSL took home wins at the Laguna Seca and the 12 Hours of Sebring. In fact, in its debut year, it won The World Manufacturers’ Championship. In 2015, the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage was developed to mark 40 years since that epic achievement. 

The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage debuted as a concept car at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, an annual event for classic and vintage cars. As a homage to the original, the 3.0 CSL Hommage has minimal interior and carbon fibre, and aluminium are used in the cockpit to keep the weight as low as possible which improves its aerodynamic design and racing ability. Additionally, the model has an inline-six engine with an eBoost hybrid system in the rear of the car, making it ideal for the racetrack.

The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage still sports the classic body of the original 3.0 CSL but pulls modern design cues from BMW 6 series and an aggressive front end, featuring a massive grille, laser headlights, and fenders that seem to fold up over the hood. Released as a limited-edition design concept, car enthusiasts can now see the model up close at AGMC’s Motor City showroom.
