Denso teamed up with Blackberry to launch a human machine interface (HMI) digital cockpit system that they developed together. The new technology called Denso Harmony Core will be available first in vehicles made by Japanese car manufacturer Subaru.
Conventionally, vehicles have multiple HMI systems that need device-specific operating systems to work. In the case of the new platform, however, it comes with Blackberry QNX hypervisor technology which facilitates the integration of several independent operation systems with different controls with one microcomputer in a vehicle.
Commenting on Denso Harmony Core, Blackberry QNX SVP and general manager John Wall said that software is the driving force in next-generation automotive design and with cars becoming more automated and data-driven, they need to have functional, secure and trusted in-vehicle software.
The Denso Harmony Core platform will be seen first in the 2020 Subaru Legacy and Outback models. Other automotive manufacturers across the globe will be soon launching new models having such integrated HMI systems. Blackberry had recently collaborated with Jaguar Land Rover on the development of new autonomous vehicles which use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies. The two companies are working on use of Blackberry’s QNX operating system and Blackberry Cylance to help develop a range of capabilities which can enhance vehicle safety. These will include predictive software maintenance and cyber threat protection. As part of the partnership, Blackberry will also help Jaguar Land Rover to identify any potential security bugs in the company’s connected and autonomous vehicles.
