Nokian Tyres Launches New Summer Powerproof and Wetproof Tires for SUVs and Crossovers

Leading manufacturer of premium tires, Nokian Tyres has launched summer tires for SUVs and crossovers with the companies pathbreaking powerproof and wetproof technologies. The new Nokian Powerproof SUV range comprises tires that can withstand high-speed lane changes and sudden braking. Tires of the Nokian Wetproof SUV range are meant to deliver outstanding wet braking abilities and high levels of aquaplaning resistance with excellent traction on wet roads. Both types of tires come with the Dual Zone Safety technology that was seen in test-winning passenger car models.

There has been an upswing in the demand for powerful SUVs and stylish crossovers and this has translated into a higher demand for premium SUV tires. Nokian Tyres has hence launched two new tires for SUV products based on the test-winning passenger car models called Nokian Powerproof and Nokian Wetproof.

Jarno Röytiö, Development Manager at Nokian Tyres said that summer tires need to be safe and reliable and hence the focus when developing the new tires for SUVs was on the development of tires that were functional in any weather and under any circumstances. Both the new tires come with Nokian’s Aramid sidewall technology with the sidewall incorporating the extremely robust aramid fiber, which makes the tires more resistant to sudden impacts and cuts. Such challenges could otherwise have significant effect on conventional tires.

The new SUV tires represent a further expansion of the company’s selection of summer tires for the Central European market. Both the Nokian Powerproof SUV and Nokian Wetproof SUV tires have received the TÜV Tire Performance Mark, attesting to their high quality. The new tires will be available at the retail level in the spring of 2020.

Nokian Powerproof SUV

The Nokian Powerproof SUV is positioned as a UHP summer tire for powerful SUVs. The Dual Zone Safety concept ensures that the tire’s contact surface remains exact and predictable. It means that the tire comprises two functional zones. The Power Zone on the tire’s outer shoulder enhances precise handling, and the Wet Safety Zone on the inside ramps up safety on wet roads.

The new tire has a strong and durable that is meant to tolerate stresses associated with and offers higher levels of stability right from the first moments of spring to the heat of summer. The tire tread has been optimized for higher speeds and demanding use and higher speeds with the use of the new Dynamic Grip SUV compound. It offers excellent grip and maximum durability. Nokian Tyres developed the tire in collaboration with F1 World Champion Mika Hakkinnen whose expertise was used for the development of the first passenger car model Nokian Powerproof tire. The tire offers reliable performance at both
high and low speeds and on wet and dry surfaces offering both safety and driving confidence, according to Häkkinen. The tire’s key benefits are precise and predictable high-speed handling on highway, maximum stability and enjoyable driving feel as well as extra toughness thanks to the aramid sidewalls.

The Nokian Powerproof SUV is a UHP tire which is available in 29 sizes ranging from 17 to 21 inches, with speed ratings of V (240km/h), W (270 km/h) and Y (300 km/h).

Nokian Wetproof SUV
The new Nokian Wetproof SUV is meant to be a safe and reliable summer tire for small and medium-sized SUVs. The most notable features of the tire are its outstanding wet braking abilities and powerful aquaplaning resistance, making it ideal for a comfortable drive even on wet roads. The tire offers the best combination of wet and dry properties with its improved wet grip and higher resistance to aquaplaning, offering motorists a higher level of safety. As in the case of the Powerproof SUV tire, the key technology used in the tire is the Dual Zone Safety concept, with the tread area of the tire divided into two functional zones that offer an excellent combination of dry and wet performance. The Stability Zone on the outside of the tire makes maneuvering easy and confident with its mix of good stability and handling properties, while the Wet Safety Zone on the inside enhances wet grip and aquaplaning resistance.

The Aqua Hybrid SUV compound offers added safety for rainy weather. This new-generation rubber compound with advanced polymer types and improved silica structure provides excellent wet grip and lower fuel costs. The tire’s wet grip is among the best in the industry, in class A.

The new Nokian Wetproof SUV is offered in the speed categories H (210 km/h), V (240 km/h) and W (270 km/h), and the size range covers 27 items from 16-inch to 19-inch.
