It has been a little over two years since Bugatti started production of the Chiron. The company marked the delivery of Chiron number 200 with production of limited-edition Chiron Sport “110 ans Bugatti” marking 110 years of Bugatti. This anniversary model made it a point to display the iconic French Tricolour at various points throughout, in homage to the brand’s origin and was delivered to a buyer in Switzerland.
Stephan Winkelmann, president of Bugatti commented on his pride in seeing the 200th Chiron emerge from the factory. He said the car marked the celebration of the company history while paying tribute to the brand’s French origin.
Winkelmann went on to acknowledge the accomplishments of the Molsheim workforce saying “The quality and dedication of everyone involved in a Bugatti car is unique in the world and demonstrates the passion that we bring to our work.”
The production of a Bugatti involves a great deal of craftmanship with each car taking ten months to build. The final assembly is carried out at the Alsace site and takes eight weeks. In 2017, when the Chiron was first manufactured, 70 cars were completed, but this output is growing at a steady pace. In 2018, the factory made 76 Chirons, and by the end of this year, it expects to deliver over 80 units. Out of the Bugatti’s official 500 figure for production of the Chiron, less than 100 are still available to order.
“It’s a special event, the year is a significant one, and so is the car, which makes it doubly special,” said Christophe Piochon, Bugatti Production Director. He said that it is very rarely possible to see in the Atelier, a model that has different personalizations, in different production phases at once. The anniversary Chiron Sport “110 ans Bugatti” made this possible, four of the 20 cars being built at the same time.
The 200th Chiron was a “110 ans Bugatti” that celebrates the French heritage of Bugatti. It sports numerous symbols of the French nation in addition to the standard features that every Chiron has. The notable features include flags on the wing mirrors reminiscent of the official vehicles of the French Government, while the “Sky View” glass roof panels allow extra light into the cockpit. The contrast between the painted “Steel Blue” of the engine block and the visible carbon of the monocoque body date back to the traditional two-tone look of the luxury cars which Bugatti used to make in the 1920s. The Chiron Sport is even otherwise a unique model – and the anniversary edition takes this to an even higher level of exclusivity.
In 1909, Ettore Bugatti set up his factories in Molsheim with the aim of creating cars that had luxurious shapes and exceptional performance capability. Historic models like the Type 35 or the Type 57 SC Atlantic depict the great passion Bugatti expended as part of his efforts to create unique cars. Now, after more than a century, Bugatti’s core values continue to be the same, and the Chiron continues to honor them. The “110 ans Bugatti” edition further reinforces the exclusive character of these cars and ensures that Bugatti stands out from other super sports car makers.
