Leading electronics component manufacturer, Molex Electronic Technologies, has finalized a deal with Laird Limited to acquire its Connected Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division. Laird CVS deal with the design, development and delivery of vehicle connectivity devices, vehicle antenna systems and smart device integration.
Molex said that after the deal is complete, it will be able to enhance its capabilities and support the development of flexible connected vehicle technology ecosystems which come with 10Gbps Ethernet support for automotive OEMs which are keen on making next-generation, intelligent vehicles.
Commenting on the deal, Tim Ruff, senior vice president, Molex Business Development, said in a press release that there is very high demand for seamless end-to-end network integration across hardware, software and services in the automotive industry. He felt that acquiring Laird CVS will help Molex to expand its geographic reach and reinforce its ability to support automotive OEMs who are working on the development of future-ready vehicles with critical functionality without spending huge amounts. He said that the acquisition aligned with the company’s strategy to provide groundbreaking solutions for a growth market.”
Steven Brown, president, Laird Connected Vehicle Solutions said that his team was excited about the opportunities the acquisition would create. Laird will now be able to combine its technology expertise and experience with that of Molex to help automotive OEMs to anticipate and meet the complex challenges of making it possible for vehicles to be connected while on the move, especially in view of the fact that autonomous vehicles are likely to become commonplace in the future.
