Apollo Tyres Starts Commercial Production of Truck Tires at Hungarian Plant

Apollo Tyres has started commercial production of truck tires at its plant in the Gyongyoshalasz region of Hungary. The plant which was set up with a capital outlay of EUR 475 million is Apollo’s sixth factory and its second production facility in Europe. The truck tires produced at the factory will be made under the Apollo brand.
The tire manufacturer had already commenced production of tires for passenger cars at the plant in April 2017. These tires are being marketed under the Apollo and Vredstein brands. Apollo Tyres said in a statement that the first lot of truck tires which were made at the Hungarian factory have been supplied for use by Piessens and Zonen vehicles used by Belgian company, Londerzeel. Belgium was the first country in Europe where Apollo’s truck tires were launched, hence the choice of a Belgian company for the delivery of the first truck tires made at Apollo’s Hungarian plant makes sense. The statement added that Apollo already had a 2 per cent market share in Belgium, which is now a key market for the Indian tire manufacturer.

Apollo started supplying the Apollo brand of truck tires in Europe in 2017.

In the first phase of production at its factory in the Gyongyoshalasz region of Hungary, the capacity for production of tires is 14,000 tires for passenger cars and 1,200 tires for trucks on a daily basis.

Apollo’s statement said that the production capacity will continue to be ramped up on a daily basis till it attains the planned capacity for phase I by 2019.
