Continental has launched its digital tire monitoring platform, ContiConnect for commercial fleets. The platform sends alerts if the tire pressure deviates from a predefined value. Commenting on the new platform, Michael Neuheisel, Head of Digital Solutions Commercial Vehicle Tiressaid that ContiConnect will serve as the starting point for Continental to become a partner for tire-related data services, thus transforming the company from a premium tire manufacturer to a solutions provider. Continental has leveraged its expertise in the tire industry to come up with this solution that will utilize data obtained from sensors to provide multiple benefits to fleet customers. These benefits include lower maintenance costs, less chances for breakdowns and greater uptime for each vehicle in the fleet as fleet managers can now reacr proactively to any potential issues. The solution will be implemented first for truck, bus and specialty tires.
The different components of ContiConnect which can be combined in different ways include: • A tire sensor that is mounted on the inner liner of a tire. • A yard reader station that serves as the point for the collection of tire data as the vehicle passes by the receiver in the yard. This station then transmits the data to the backend where it is analyzed and interpreted. Yard reader stations are normally installed at frequent touch points like refueling stations. • A web portal that serves as the interface for fleet managers to oversee and track the tire condition and performance of all vehicles in their fleet on a proactive basis. The browser-based portal offers users multiple display options and can be accessed from any type of device. The portal offers insights into the history of the tire data and enables retrospective analyses. Fleet managers can remotely keep tabs on the entire fleet´s tire performance.
• Notifications via e-mail or SMS suggest corrective measures where necessary.
