Axalta Coating Systems, one of the leading players in the liquid and powder coatings segment has opened its expanded Technology Center in Vadodara in Gujarat, India. The Center comprises an automotive coatings development laboratory and color laboratory. While the automotive coatings development laboratory will deal with the development of special paint formulations to ensure superior color match, aesthetics and quality, the expanded laboratory will have contemporary robotic spray applicators that have the capability to replicate line application conditions inside the factories of customers.
According to Axalta, the equipment is meant to promote the development, approval, quality control, and customer line support required by automotive OEMs. Other high-tech equipment at the Tech Centre include color measurement tools and accelerated paint testing equipment.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the expanded Tech Centre, Dr Barry Snyder, Axalta’s senior vice-president and chief technology officer said that technology plays a key role in driving the company’s business as well as catering to its customers. He added that the Technology Centre is part of a global network of technology facilities that are meant to develop tailored solutions to meet local customer needs.
Vinay Rajadhyaksha, managing director Axalta Coating Systems India said that Axalta regularly monitors automotive trends and forecasts how color preferences are changing in the automotive market. The company now has the capability to offer innovative coating solutions directly to its customers in the Indian market. He expressed his confidence that with the new state-of-the-art technology center, the company would be able to meet the paint and coatings requirements of all its customers in India.
In India, Axalta serves customers in the industrial, transportation, OEM, and refinish segments. The company’s refinish products includes renowned brands like Duxone, Cromax, Nason, Standox, Duxone, and Lucite.
The Indian automotive market is slated to grow at a remarkably high CAGR of about 7 percent over the next five years. Axalta set up its subsidiary in India in 1996, and has a manufacturing plant in Vadodara in addition to offices and regional training centers in Gurugram, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Vadodara.
