The new 2018 Mustang is slated to be the sportiest ever with the entire line-up to have the electronic line-lock system. Ford first introduced the line-lock feature on the 2015 Mustang GT. The electronically-controlled, burnout-enabling line-lock feature will now be offered as a standard feature on the 2018 Mustangs, including the model that is powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Motorists can activate the line-lock that allows them to emulate top-class racers through scrolling to the Track Apps menu on the display screen of the Mustang. Only the front brakes will be engaged while the rear wheels spin and the car remains stationary, thus burning rubber for about 15 seconds. In racing, this is done to help prepare the tires for action and to gain traction before a drag race. Even for those who are not part of the racing scene, this is one feature that can help you impress your friends.
Earlier, the line-lock option was only available on the V8-powered GT and Shelby GT350 models, but now Ford is doing its best to increase its appeal to racing wannabes. The Focus RS comes with a drift mode that allows the all-wheel-drive car to drift. It is not possible to do a burn-out, but it comes pretty close.
When it comes to 2018 Mustangs that come with the new, full digital instrument cluster option, there is also a graphic depicting a smoky burnout under the tachometer. This will further enhance the racing experience in addition to your screaming tires.
