AkzoNobel has announced that it is working on a new paint line in collaboration with renowned custom car builder Dave Kindig. Kindig is the host of the famous show, “Bitchin’ Rides” on Discovery’s Velocity Channel. The new paint line will be a line of paints for custom cars and will be unveiled at SEMA 2017. At SEMA 2016, the line was initially introduced but all the products in the line will be revealed to the public at this year’s version of the event.
It is not an easy process to find the right color for a custom car as it needs to take into account several factors like the history of the vehicle, the desired style and the personality of the owner. With the new range of paints, AkzoNobel will try to make this process easier with input from Kindig. In fact, Kindig recently visited AkzoNobel’s Vehicle Refinishes headquarters in North America which is located in Troy, Michigan, just north of Detroit to pitch in with his ideas for the paint line.
Kindig has several decades of experience when it comes to building custom cars, and during his stint as a builder has dealt with all sorts of American muscle cars. He expressed his excitement at partnering with AkzoNobel to develop his very own line of paints.
Speakign about the collaboration, Kindig said, “I’m thrilled to be working with AkzoNobel on developing this brand new custom color line. He said that he has never looked back since he started spraying Sikkens Autowave for his projects. While he would contribute his style and quality to the range, AkzoNobel will contribute its expertise with colors and its exciting product line to come up with a range of colors that is pretty interesting
When asked if the line would be based on anything in particular, Jennifer Solcz, Akzo Nobel’s North American Marketing Manager, said that the colors would be classic, timely and truly authentic. They would be of the same superior quality as the paints belonging to Akzo Nobel’s Sikkens brand.
It is a win-win partnership for both Kindig and AkzoNobel, and according to Solcz, the partnership will set AkzoNobel apart from other automotive refinishing manufacturers.
“This is a one-of-a-kind, exclusive partnership with Dave Kindig,” said Solcz, adding “Colors offered will be developed based on Dave’s creative, artistic vision.”
