MAHLE Powertrain has announced that the company will be setting up a new headquarters in North America in Plymouth, Michigan to oversee its USD 16 million expansion drive. The move is expected to create many new jobs and expedite a wide range of advanced engine-development programs.
MAHLE Powertrain will shift from MAHLE’s corporate headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan, to a purpose built 45,000-square-foot building at 14900 Galleon Court in Plymouth. The company recently purchased the building from Westport Fuel Systems. It is scheduled to formally open the new headquarters in early November.
MAHLE Powertrain is one of the leading engineering services companies in the world. It currently employs over 40 people and in the near future has plans to add up to 20 new powertrain engineering positions.
The new Plymouth headquarters has infrastructural facilities like five powertrain test cells, a four-wheel-drive chassis dynamometer, seven vehicle lifts, and a wiring-and-instrumentation laboratory. A few years down the line, the company is planning to add two additional powertrain test cells, upgrades to engine and vehicle test beds in order as well as additional equipment to test hybrid-electric vehicles in order to meet the regulatory norms for certification.
“Our Plymouth headquarters will be one of the most technically advanced engine-development facilities in North America,” said Hugh Blaxill, managing director of MAHLE Powertrain LLC. “The new facility is designed to support a wide range of advanced engine-development activities, including MAHLE’s Jet Ignition program.”
According to Blaxill, the shift to the new headquarters will make it possible for MAHLE to provide additional customer support in advanced engine testing for gasoline, diesel, hybrid, propane and natural gas powertrains.
