For the very first time in its history, Autoliv, the leading provider of advanced safety systems, is taking part in the upcoming International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas which will run from January 6 to 9.
According to Jan Carlson, Chairman, President and CEO of Autoliv, today’s average technology consumers spend huge portions of their average day in traffic. He said that they want to signal to neighboring technology sectors that the future in automotive safety lies in various parties coming together to further enhance road safety for the future.
The company’s move into the CES arena reflects the growth and interest in Active Safety as well as the company’s Real Life Safety focus, which seeks to team up with automakers and other partners to proactively enhance safety and functionality. Thus, Autoliv will carry out real-life demos of Active Safety applications at CES.
Frank Melzer, head of Autoliv’s Electronics pision, said in a statement that CES is a platform and a journey for facilitating cross-sector learning and in their industry, quality and safety is everything. “At CES, we will showcase our engineering progresses, simulation methods and product testing methods by live demoing seven of our latest Real Life Safety-solutions out on the CES tarmac.”
Autoliv will display a number of active safety developments. Touted as the eyes of autonomous driving, Active Safety progress is vital for sector development both in today’s vehicles as well as for all aspects of upcoming autonomous vehicles—and in a wider sense, for any traffic situation where product safety meets real life circumstances.
In the development and testing stage, this not only suggests both thoroughly and diligently testing products under harsh and real conditions, but also employing the top-tier software applications and a variety of both testing and research methods to take Real Life Safety development to the next level.
Melzer concluded that Autoliv’s vision is to save more lives, and through their Real Life Safety focus, they make their vision a reality.
Among the Among the solutions to be demonstrated is the third generation Night Vision solution, the globe’s first ready system which can detect traffic hazards and road users in complete fog or darkness.
At CES, the company will also demonstrate how the premier Stereo Vision system and its exceptional 3D processing can be used to handle unknown projects and the unanticipated situation sometimes occurring in real life traffic situations.
Autoliv will also showcase its advanced Automated Emergency Braking (AEB) system based on just a Mono Vision camera, which will be demonstrated using a number of NCAP standard scenarios. This aims to show how the camera system can handle real-life situations such as driver inattention-related hazards, thereby exhibiting the company’s competence in computer vision.
Moreover, Autoliv will also demo other HMI safety technologies, using the zForce Intuitive Steering Wheel combined with GPS path following technology Electronic Horizon, to exhibit how smooth transition between manual and automated driving can be handled in real life.
What’s more, CES attendees will also get a chance to see two radar system applications: the 25GHz Radar Based AEB system, already in production and given a 5-star rating by EuroNCAP, as well as the Rear Cross Traffic Alert & Braking (RCTA+), which employs 77GHz radar technology incorporating both warnings and AEB e.g. when backing out of a parking spot into cross-traffic.
