Cooper Wins Global 2015 GOOD DESIGN Awards for four tires

Cooper Tire has announced that four Cooper tires have been chosen as winners for the 2015 Good Design Awards. Of these two, the Discoverer STT Pro and Discoverer SRX, are made in the United States while the Discoverer UTS and Weather Master Ice 100 are made in China. The Good Design Awards which are jointly awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies are renowned on a global basis for picking the best consumer products every year on the basis of criteria like use of new technologies, creative design, utility, materials, concept, impact on the environment, form, construction, function and energy efficiency.

Comenting on the awards, Cooper’s Senior Vice President–Global Research & Development , Chuck Yurkovich said that the fact that four of its tires qualified for the awards highlights Cooper’s commitment to develop high quality products high quality products and innovative that perform.

The Discoverer STT Pro off-road tire is ideal for those with a thirst for outdoor adventure with high levels of traction, toughness and treadwear to tackle even the toughest off-road conditions like rocky and muddy surfaces. The sidewall and tread area have been offer better strength due to the tire’s Armor-Tek while mud release dimples and scoops contribute to traction and minimize buildup . The tread compound has been infused with silica for better wet traction in day-to-day traffic The tire has lower rolling resistance and this improves fuel mileage.

The Discoverer SRX is meant primarily to provide premium sport utility and crossover (CUV) vehicles with superior handling, dependable all-season highway traction and a quiet, comfortable ride. The SRX is notable for Cooper’s new visual treadwear indicator, the innovative Wear Square™ that customers can use to easily assess the state of the tread thickness and replace the tire when needed. The new generation silica tread compound used in the SRX gives the tire better grip on the road and lower rolling resistance. In tandem with Cooper’s patented Stabiledge technology and the specially developed 3D Micro-Gauge sipes, the new tread compound is responsible for delivering better surface grip and traction even in wet and snowy conditions. This makes the tire a good choice from the safety perspective as it provides users with better stopping distances and superior handling. The tire can be used in tough winter conditions also as it has a snow grip tread area.

The Cooper Discoverer UTS is an UHP tire for SUV targeting the growing demand from owners of luxury vehicles in the Chinese market. The tire is the company’s first UHP SUV tire to get an A rating in line with the EU 1222/2009 labeling norms for its wet grip performance. It was designed and developed by the team at the Cooper Asia Technical Center and also earned a C grade for its rolling resistance performance. The UTS tread pattern played a crucial role in the tire winning the Good Design award as it includes components like wide-lined shoulders to provide lateral stability, spring vents for a striking appearance, four-wide circumferential grooves to minimize aquaplaning, and chamfered edges on the tread blocks to reduce noise.

The Weather Master Ice 100 which was also designed and made in China is a high performance tire for sport coupes and luxury sedans that provides high levels of performance even in very severe winter conditions with high levels of traction on ice and snow. The tire’s specially textured tread surface, 3 D sipes in specific areas and newly developed tread compound gives it the ability to perform equally well in both wet and dry conditions. The tire meets all EU legislation and labeling requirements and is the first Cooper product to achieve the “Severe Snow” designation according to EU Regulation 117.
