Yokohama Tires Receive Two Good Design Awards

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. Has announced that the company has won the prestigious Good Design awards for two of its tires. The company won the awards for its Geolander X-CV tire and the Geolander X-AT tire. While the Geolander X-CV tire is meant for high-performance crossover SUVs, the Geolander X-AT tire is used in SUVs and pickup trucks.

The Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award, which was first given in 1950, is one of the three most prestigious design awards in the world. It is given by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the jury for the awards comprises experts who evaluate all the entries received for the awards based on stringent parameters related to their design, incorporation of new technologies, materials and function. In 2019, entries were received from over 47 countries across the globe for a wide range of categories including electronics equipment, transportation-related goods, and medical equipment.

Yokohama’s Geolander X-CV tire is a new highway terrain tire that was designed specifically for midsize high-performance crossover SUVs with large monocoque-structure which demonstrate high-speed performance and drivability. Such vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. The Geolander X-AT tire is meant for motorists who are keen on tuning their vehicles for off-road driving while still maintaining on-road driving comfort. This off-road tire sports a distinctly rugged appearance and is capable of delivering an outstanding performance even in the most challenging conditions. The Geolander X-AT also delivers a comfortable on-road ride performance.

The consumer tire strategy in Yokohama Rubber’s medium-term management plan, the Grand Design 2020 (GD2020), involves enhancing Yokohama’s presence in the premium car markets. In line with this strategy, the tire manufacturer is actively working on the development of products with high performance and design sense based on original approaches. Yokohama had won awards for two tires in the 2018 edition of the Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Awards also – for the Geolander X-MT which is a mud-terrain tire for SUVs and pickup trucks, and for the AVID Ascend GT passenger car tire.
