Chinese tire manufacturer Sentury Tire finalized a deal to collaborate with Huagao Graphene Technology Corporation on developing technology to make their first high performance car tire from graphene. Using graphene, a super thin form of carbon in tires marks a significant technological breakthrough as it is 200 times stronger but six times more flexible than steel and the tires made of this material will have higher levels of heat dissipation.
The agreement between the two companies was signed in the presence of eminent dignitaries like Qingdao information technology department vice director Wang Jian, deputy mayor of Qingdao Sun Mingming, China grapheme industry alliance secretary Li Yichun, and senior management officials from Sentury like chairman of Sentury Qin Long and Sentury president.
A statement from Sentury indicated that the company plans to produce its first trial grapheme tire in October 2016. It will be a 245/45 R18 LS588@RSC electrostatic tire.
In the long run, the two companies plan to jointly produce 5 million graphene tires in the first five years and gradually ramp up the output to 10 million tires in the next five years. Together, according to the two companies: “Sentury and Huagao will lead the industrial revolution in graphene-tire field”.
