The demands for tires to be used in the agricultural sector have changed over the years, thanks to the change in requirements and new production methods and trends. The agricultural machinery used has become heavier and use more innovative technologies and hence the tires too need to change. Tire manufacturers thus have to come up with products that can successfully meet these new challenges.
Petlas Tire Corp., which is based in Turkey and is one of the leading producers of agricultural tires makes it a point to to keep up with the latest technological developments in the agricultural tire industry. The company feels that IF (Improved Flexion) and VF (Very High Flexion) tires will soon be playing a key role in the agricultural machinery industry.
Commenting on this trend, Oguz Ay, International Sales and Marketing Director of Petlas said that farmers have realized the importance of long term yield. It is now the primary function of agricultural tires to protect the soil along with the roots and seeds as this can help improve the long term yield of the soil and thus provides a better return on investment.
Petlas currently has as part of its range two different sizes of IF tires which sport the company’s acclaimed agricultural radial pattern, TA130: 600/70 R30 and 800/70 R38. Petlas developed these tires specifically to protect what really matters for the farmers. They offer the benefits of IF technology as they provide a footprint that is a lot bigger than that of conventional tires. They thus cause less soil compaction and provide better protection of the soil. The tires of the TA130 IF series can support the same amount of load with up to 25% less pressure. In addition ot this feature, they increase the contact area of the tire and thus, significantly boost traction and drag force. The advantages they offer to farmers include outstanding performance, stability during operations that require a good deal of precision and minimal impact on the soil and produce. As part its ongoing investments in this technology, Petlas has begun working on developing four new IF (Improved Flexion) sizes: 650/60R34, 650/65R34, 710/75R42 and 650/85 R38.
Petlas’ Very High Flexion (VF) radial trailer tire HLT-45 has the capability to support 40 percent more load with the same pressure, when it is compared to traditional tires. Theoutcome is extremely high levels of fuel efficiency as it can reduce the number of transportation cycles drastically. Another benefit it offers to users is that VF tires eliminate the need to change the pressure of the tires while transiting from the field to the road as they can tolerate much higher speeds than ordinary tires with the same pressure. This will give the operators more time to transport more loads and thus enhance their efficiency
With literally no need to change the pressure, users will gain a lot of extra time to dedicate to produce or carry more and more crop. With the strong carcass and reinforced sidewalls, HLT-45 ensures a long service life to offer maximum value for the farmers’ investments. Petlas currently offers one size for this tire, 285/70 R19.5 and the company’s short term plan is to broaden the VF tire range by adding in the following new sizes: 380/90R46, 480/80R42, 480/80 R46, 520/85 R46, 480/80 R50 and 710/70 R42.
