Nissan Motor Co., Ltd announced the appointment of Peyman Kargar to senior vice-president and chairman of INFINITI Motor Company effective June 1, 2020. Reporting to Christian Vandenhende, vice-chief performance officer and chief quality officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Kargar will step into the role of chairman as INFINITI begins a product renaissance from its new headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.
Peyman is a proven, global leader joining the INFINITI team in a very exciting time for the brand. I look forward to seeing him usher in the next chapter for INFINITI, said Vandenhende.
Kargar has more than 23 years of experience in the auto industry, primarily with the Renault-Nissan Alliance. He has held various leadership positions spanning many facets of automotive industry. His roles have included engineering, manufacturing, project management, quality, sales, marketing and business development giving him a holistic perspective on the business. Most recently, Kargar was chairman and senior vice-president of Africa, Middle East and India Region for Nissan, where he worked with more than 80 countries and unique markets.
Kargar replaces Michael Colleran who is appointed as corporate vice president, marketing and sales, US, Nissan North America. Colleran served the INFINITI organization for more than two years working on laying the groundwork for a brand reinvention and the organizations move to Yokohama, Japan in early April.
Peyman Kargar assumes the role of senior vice president and chairman of INFINITI Motor Company at the global headquarters, in Yokohama, Japan from June 1, 2020. Karger will oversee the global marketing, sales and operations of the INFINITI business worldwide.
Prior to his new role, Kargar, was chairman of AMI Region and senior vice president of Nissan in charge of Nissan’s operation in Africa, Middle East, and South Asia, since April 1st 2017.
During that time, he led more than 80 countries for NISSAN Group and oversaw the regional management committee and was responsible for business strategy and performance with all functional heads for both the Nissan and Datsun brands reporting to him.
Kargar, 53, joined Nissan from Alliance partner, Renault, where he worked since 1996 in a number of senior management posts spanning engineering, quality, service, projects and aftersales.
This included establishing a new region for Renault in his role as Vice president sales & marketing, where he gained extensive market knowledge through working in over 50 countries across Africa, Middle East and South Asia.
Prior to this, in 2010 he was responsible for expanding Renault’s business in the Middle East as Managing Director for the Renault Group in Iran, where sales volume tripled under his leadership. His scope was enlarged considerably in 2012 when he was promoted to Managing Director Middle East Operations, responsible for all industrial and commercial activities across 13 countries
With more than 20 years of experience in the Automotive Industry, mainly in Renault-Nissan Alliance, he has held various different positions covering the automotive value chain. This included Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, Quality, Sales and Marketing and Business Development, which helped develop a strong leadership in one of the most competitive fields of Business.
Peyman holds an MBA from London Business School and a BSc. in mechanical engineering from Institut National des Sciences Appliquees de Lyon in France.
