According to reports, ZTE and TeliaSonera have recently entered into a deal to offer IoT devices starting with telematics for the automobile industry.
The two companies penned the agreement at this year’s Mobile World Congress, which kicked off on February 22 and will run until February 25. Present during the signing ceremony were Wang Zhijun, VP of ZTEWelink, Jacky Zhang, Senior Vice President, ZTE Corporation, and Hans Dahlberg, Head of TeliaSonera Global M2M Services.
As per the agreement terms, ZTEWelink, a subsidiary of ZTE, which develops wireless communication modules, telematics terminals and solutions, will undertake a huge part of the telematics R&D process.
In a statement, ZTE Corporation, senior vice president, Jacky Zhang, said that the combination of ZTE’s 4G technology and the innovative Telia Sense’s service will enable users to have full control of their car and a growing ecosystem of features. She noted that today, connected cars are only available to new and premium models but this offering will help all their customers enjoy the benefits of a connected car. “With this contract we show our strong position in the IOT area and our capability in connecting devices to a cloud of new range of services.”
ZTE invested heavily in IoT since 2009, and proposed M-ICT strategy two years ago to focus on industry informatization. Today, the company has attained fast development in IoT industry and Intelligent Patent layout.
