Tesla had earlier announced that it would be soon be releasing a v8.0 software update. This software update involved a complete revamp of the media interface but did not have a customized version of the Spotify app for streaming music. Tesla had already integrated the Spotify app for its cars sold in Europe on a fast track basis after the streaming service it was using in Europe, Rdio went bankrupt and needed to be replaced quickly. Now in a surprise move, it looks like Tesla might soon be integrating a customized version of Spotify for Tesla vehicles sold in the United States.
Tesla vehicles sold in the US currently use Slacker, but many Tesla owners would love to have Spotify onboard. Currently Spotify provides access to more than 30 million songs belonging to all genres. With Tesla already having a partnership with the Swedish company, Tesla owners in the United States were eagerly anticipating the arrival of Spotify in the Tesla vehicles sold in the United States.
Login information for Spotify has already started appearing in the in-vehicle software source code in the US, but so fat it has not become functional for users.
The new app will offer users features like the ability to connect to other devices, get personalized music recommendations, switch between Spotify accounts and the facility to use voice commands to control playback.
As in Europe, Tesla owners will be able to benefit from free Premium Spotify accounts, to get an ad-free music experience. This would only be available in Tesla vehicles.
