According to SIRIM, it will set up a special laboratory for automotive component manufacturers to test the endurance level of brake pads.
This announcement was made by Dr. Mohamad Jamil Sulaiman, the organization’s research and innovation technology pision vice-president, who revealed that SIRIM was in the process of purchasing the required equipment for the brake pad testing laboratory, which will be set up in 2017.
Mohamad Jamil explained the reason behind the lab setup saying that brake pads bought from workshop operators should meet the specified standards to reduce brake system failure, which often led to road accidents.
He noted that they want to ensure the brake pads function according to the stipulated standards, concluding that the national standards organization already has several laboratories offering measurement and calibration services, including that for photometric testing of LED lights.
