Schaeffler is expanding its manufacturing base in China with the establishment of a new factory in Xiangtan, which is located in in the Chinese province of Hunan. With this strategic move, Schaeffling has highlighted its belief in the Chinese growth story
The move to set up the new factory is the outcome of a recent cooperation agreement that Schaeffler signed with the Hunan provincial government in Anting, which is home to the Schaeffler Group’s headquarters in the country. The Xiangtan factory will help Schaeffler to augment its production capacity in the Greater China region and thus more effectively serve the needs of its customers in the domestic and international markets.
Schaeffler is planning this new factory as a phased project. In the initial stage, a factory that will cover 20 hectares will be set up to make precision bearings and automobile parts. It is expected to become operational by the end of 2018. In the second stage, a second factory will be constructed in addition to a training facility and a logistics center. Commenting on the plans for the new facility during the signing ceremony of the deal with the Hunan provincial government, the CEO of Schaeffler Greater China, Dr. Yilin Zhang said Schaeffler has had a manufacturing presence in China from 1995, when it began investing in research and development facilities and in manufacturing plants in the country. These steps have helped Schaeffler to establish itself as a market leader in China and increase its market share on a consistent basis.
