Quanergy Systems, a Silicon-Valley-based technology company offering smart sensing solutions, will reportedly launch its first-ever solid-state detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensor for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous cars. The groundbreaking system was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show’s Connected Car Expo and will cost less than US$1,000 per car.
The LiDAR sensor is equipped with an integrated circuit that does not have moving parts, but can scan in every direction (360 degrees) on both a micro and macro scale. This live, three-dimensional view around a car can spot, classify, and monitor objects in real time.
According to Quanergy, these sensors were designed from the ground up as 3D time-of-flight LiDAR in order to meet mass commercial deployment and production requirements. They are compatible for various markets throughout the transportation industry, though Quanergy currently focuses on automotive. It is said that solid-state sensors would be more cost-effective and reliable than similar, mechanical options available in the market.
Quanergy collaborates with automotive giants such as Renault-Nissan, Hyundai-Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and others in the automotive industry. The advanced LiDAR system will be displayed in its entirety at the much-anticipated Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January next year.
