Just recently, Polyonics has launched a family of flame retardant materials designed to prevent the propagation of fire in automotive under-the-hood and interior labeling applications. The UL94 VTM-0 rated thermal transfer and flexographic printable materials are third party tested to the FMVSS 302 burn standard and give low smoke and toxicity per BSS 7238/7239.
Polyonics produces flame retardant materials utilizes by automotive manufacturers for under-the-hood and interior ID, warning, and tracking labels. The polyimide and polyester (PET) materials have passed the stringent FMVSS 302 automotive burn standard and have met UL94’s VTM-0 standard.
The innovative thermal transfer and flexographic printable materials range from the affordable PET XF-611, with a 150°C operational temperature, to the high temperature polyimide XF-603 operating at 260°C. The XF-603 is also rated to the UL94 V0 standard and gives low smoke and toxicity per the aerospace BSS 7238/7239 standard.
The beauty of the Polyonics flame retardant label materials is that they offer outstanding ink reception for long lasting high contrast printing. They feature durable print surfaces that don’t fade or yellow when exposed to abrasion, high temperatures and harsh chemicals common in interior and under the hood applications. The materials employ FlameGard™ technology, a mix of PIN-based chemical and physical mechanisms, which effectively controls oxygen, heat and flammable gases and helps prevent fire propagation. Additionally, they include aggressive flame retardant PSAs highly suitable for wide-ranging automotive applications.
