Reports say that Panasonic Corp.’s Automotive & Industrial Systems Company will roll out a production line for heat-resistant phenolic molding compounds for use in car parts at its Thailand plant, Panasonic Manufacturing Ayutthaya (PMFAT).
Representing an industry first, the full-scale operation of the production of these materials in the country is slated to kick off in February next year.
With the demand in the automotive sector anticipated to rise in Southeast Asia, a number of automotive and molding parts manufacturers are expanding their production in the region, with many establishing R&D, purchase, and production functions at their main sites in Thailand. Panasonic will begin producing heat-resistant phenolic molding compounds at PMFAT to offer efficient services close to its clients and to boost its client development support capabilities in Southeast Asia. Moreover, the company aims to create and tap into new global demand for heat-resistant phenolic molding compounds.
Heat-resistant phenolic molding compounds are utilized as insulators in items such as automotive electric system components and structural parts. Panasonic’s materials are highly suitable for use in motor and vehicle parts as they possess strength and heat resistance. They also have outstanding dimensional stability in high-temperature environments, making them ideal for high-reliability motor commutators. Plus, the molding compounds can also help realize weight reduction of motor cover parts and more by replacing some or all metal parts.
Panasonic will have three production facilities for heat-resistant molding compounds in Thailand, and the other two sites being in Japan’s Yokkaichi City and China’s capital, Shanghai.
