Just recently, the group of automakers consisting BMW, Audi and Daimler—that owns digital map maker HERE—announced its plan to explore the use of huge data to enhance the quality of its maps.
Currently, the digital map maker uses data from over 80,000 sources for its maps, including static data captured by its 3D mapping cars and dynamic data.
The three giant automakers reportedly said in a statement that in order to further it plans to deliver real-time maps, HERE would be exploring the possibility of integrating anonymized data from BMW, Audi and Daimler vehicles, with a view to entering similar discussions with more industry participants in the coming months.
The automakers also stressed that by utilizing data from a number of sources, HERE would be able to speed up the development of the next-generation map required for automated driving.
