Just recently, Fortemedia has rolled out new versions of its previously launched FM1388 designed for Apple CarPlay and ITU P.1100/P.1110 compliance. The FM1388-1 and FM1388-2 Voice Processing ICs allow both ODMs and OEMs to develop automotive infotainment systems that offer the highest quality hands-free voice communication, speech recognition and voice control services while the FM1388-2 supports multiple-microphone systems, offering state-of-the-art features uniquely enabled by Fortemedia’s smart microphone array system.
The two new ICs utilize cutting-edge Advanced Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC), Advanced Microphone Array Processing (AMAP), and newly developed Smart Spectral Analysis (SSA) technologies to guarantee superior quality voice operations for both narrowband and wideband hands-free calling with Apple CarPlay and other automotive infotainment voice calling applications. For multiple-microphone systems, the company supports flexible microphone placements both in conventional car cabin overhead locations and in the car console. The FM1388-2 supports an L-shaped microphone array that Fortemedia has validated microphone placement around the bezel of console mounted displays, thereby eliminating the need for costly routing of microphone cables.
Apart from offering an excellent voice experience during hands-free phone calls, the new ICs feature a voice recognition enhancement mode that helps Automatic Speech Recognition systems provide better, error-free performance when operating in the challenging car cabin environment. This mode has a significant contribution to the user experience for both drivers and passengers, enabling safe interaction with the newest automotive infotainment systems. By enhancing speech recognition accuracy under all conditions, the FM1388-1 and FM1388-2 inspire the increased use of hands-free control mode and help eliminate the need for hands-on interaction with the system.
Currently, the FM1388-1 and FM1388-2 shipping in prototype quantities are being integrated in a number of OEM and ODM automotive infotainment products.
According to Paul Huang, with their latest generation voice processing ICs, Fortemedia is easing the burden for OEMs and ODMs in the development of Apple CarPlay compatible systems. He said that the FM1388 series easily incorporates with a number of infotainment platforms and offers a simplified capability for OEMs and ODMs, bringing innovative products to the marketplace.
Fortemedia is slated to showcase the FM1388-1 and FM1388-2 at the upcoming Car HMI USA 2016 – UX Redefined conference in Michigan from April 25 to 26.
