Apple iPhone users with Siri Eyes-Free capability have an early Christmas gift from Ford. The American automaker has recently launched the latest software update for more than five million SYNC-equipped vehicles dating back to the 2011 model year, giving drivers more convenience.
According to Sherif Marakby, director, Ford Electronics and Electrical Systems Engineering, SYNC, Ford’s entertainment and communications system, was designed not only to be flexible but also updatable, just like other mobile technologies, so their customers are able to get the most of their smartphones while behind the wheel. “Siri Eyes-Free is another great voice-activated feature that not only adds convenience but helps our customers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.”
With Siri Eyes-Free, drivers can activate Siri with a long press of the voice recognition button on the steering wheel, which works the same way as activating Siri on an iPhone. Using just their voice, drivers can ask Siri for requests, including getting directions through Apple Maps, asking about the weather, setting an alarm or reminder, looking up phone numbers for points of interests such as restaurants, sending and receiving text messages, selecting and playing music, and making phone calls.
The latest software update is available for vehicles featuring the second generation of SYNC, commonly known as MyFord Touch in North America, ranging from model years 2011 to 2016.
