Just recently, Italian automotive component maker Eldor has announced its investment of approximately $75 million in a plant to be built in Botetourt County, Virginia. The facility is anticipated to create 350 jobs in the region, which will be company’s first facility in the country.
Included in the products manufactured by Eldor are braking systems actuators, engine control units, ignition systems, and power/electronics management systems for electric and hybrid vehicles, among others.
In a statement, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said that the remarkable project is a huge win for the Commonwealth and for Botetourt County. He noted that the decision by an international company of Eldor’s caliber to select Virginia for its first US production facility is a strong testament to their business environment, workforce and strategic location.
Meanwhile, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Maurice Jones, noted that the Commonwealth continues to catalyze job opportunities by attracting global companies to establish operations here.
Eldor, headquartered in Orsenigo, Italy, has three research and development facilities as well as production plants in the country. It also has production facilities in China, Turkey, Brazil and technical offices in Germany, China and the USA.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership collaborated with Botetourt County and the Roanoke Regional Partnership to bring the project to Virginia. In fact, Governor McAuliffe has approved a $3.2m grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund for it.
According to Botetourt County Board of Supervisor Chair Jack Leffel, Botetourt County is extremely pleased to have had the chance to work with and land Eldor in the Greenfield Industrial Park of Botetourt County.
