For the second consecutive year, Continental was named as one of FORTUNE magazine’s “Most Admired Companies” for 2018, and improved its ranking from the fifth spot in the motor vehicle parts category to the fourth spot. Continental was selected for the list on the basis of its excellence in key areas like social responsibility, product and service quality, innovation, people management and global competitiveness. Currently, the company has a workforce of over 233,000 employees spread across 56 countries.
Reacting to the news, Samir Salman, CEO of Continental North America Continental said that the company was honored to be a part of the list in 2018 also. Continental has introduced new work-life initiatives for its employees in 2017, and is now working on making the work environment more flexible work environment in an industry that has become more technology driven. He went on to say that the recognition attests to Continental’s constant commitment to creating a progressive workplace environment for its employees worldwide.
Continental came up with a global program called Future Work Flexibility initiative that is meant to help current and future employees balance their work and personal lives. The program comprised telecommuting, part-time hours, and extended sabbaticals. The company also enhanced its maternity leave program and added paid paternity leave.
“There are many opportunities to grow career-wise and personally,” said Walter Rochowiak, project manager, Continental. “We have a great work-life balance.” In addition to this accolade,Continental was also named one of “America’s Best Employers” by Forbes magazine, “Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For” by the National Association for Business Resources and “Best Places to Work in South Carolina” by SC Biz News.
Fortune published the list after completing a survey of 680 companies from 29 different countries. The survey compiled responses from 3,900 executives, analysts, directors, and experts from different industries and used the data to generate a list of the “Most Admired Companies.” Participants in the survey were asked to rate the companies from their own industries on several different factors ranging from global competitiveness and innovation to social responsibility and quality of management. In order to be included in the list, a company had to score among the top half of their industry.
