Chassis Brakes International, which is one of the largest manufacturers of automotive brake systems and components in the world used the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit to showcase its current range of braking products and the products it has developed in the electronic, brake-by-wire and autonomous categories.
One such product was the company’s new Smart Brake technology, which is an electro-mechanical brake system that completely simplifies the vehicle system architecture by eliminating the use of hydraulic fluid. It also simplifies vehicle assembly and end-of-line testing for automakers.
Chassis Brakes had recently announced that it would begin production of brake calipers and rotors at a new plant in Queretaro, Mexico, for two leading automotive manufacturers having assembly operations in Mexico and the United States.
Other Chassis Brakes products in the spotlight at the NAIAS included single- and twin-piston caliper designs from its ZOHe (zero offset harmonized evolution) range. One of these was a zero-drag brake, which has been specially designed to reduce CO2 and fine dust emissions with no pedal feel or drag variation over the lifetime of the disc pad.
Chassis Brakes International also used the show to highlight its range of automated and manual parking brakes in standard and heavy-duty versions for passenger cars, light trucks and SUVs. The lightweight systems are optimized to reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) while providing exceptional clamping force.
