Al-Futtaim Toyota worked closely with the UAE government authorities to conduct a total of 16 raids on dealers of fake car parts across the UAE. The raids have been conducted in Dubai, AL Ain, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah and Ajman so far and in these raids over 300,000 counterfeit Toyota parts valued at more than AED 15 million (USD 4 million) were confiscated and destroyed. Most of the seized goods were serviceable goods like oil filters, fuel filters and spark plugs.
In 2018 alone, Al- Futtaim Toyota provided comprehensive training to over 100 Economic Department Field Inspectors across the UAE. The training sessions were conducted with the goal of increasing awareness amongst officials and helping them to identify counterfeit parts, while also giving them the necessary tools to educate consumers about the importance of using genuine parts.
Commenting on the raids Saud Abbasi, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim-Toyota, said that the adverse effect on safety and the economic impact as a result of the use and trade of counterfeit parts, are tremendous. He said that the company’s success was possible only with the combined efforts of its Brand Protection team and UAE government officials from the local Economic Departments and local Police.
Though counterfeit parts are cheap, they will affect vehicle longevity and can also cause fatal accidents on the roads as in the case of failure of brake pads and other essential functions.
Genuine Toyota parts are available at Al- Futtaim Toyota and its reputable authorized dealers. All the parts are manufactured to meet the highest quality standards. In 2017 Al- Futtaim Toyota and UAE Government officials successfully executed a total of 29 raids, resulting in the confiscation of goods worth more than AED 41 million.
