Lamborghini has continued to establish itself as the leading super sports car manufacturer in the Middle East with the automaker receiving four titles across four categories at the 2020 Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) Awards.
The Italian manufacturer known for its diverse models, the V8 Urus, V10 Huracán and V12 Aventador SVJ, has had a successful year with experts and customers alike praising their design quality, craftsmanship, handling, performance and technology.
The 2020 MECOTY Awards saw the Huracán EVO take the honors in the Performance Coupe category. With the Huracan EVO, Lamborghini evolved its most successful V10-powered model, making it stand out for its ability to anticipate and respond to the driver’s behaviour, making it an emotive yet controlled driving experience despite pumping out 640 hp, going from 0-100 km/h in under three seconds and reaching a top speed of 325 km/h.
The Aventador SVJ Roadster won the Supercar award, a category which Lamborghini has dominated in recent years, also winning the award in 2018 and 2019. The Aventador SVJ Roadster’s unique aerodynamic package is the most futuristic ever designed, providing optimal aerodynamic balance when cornering, while minimizing drag to fully unleash the 770 hp V12 engine on straights.
Lamborghini also took home the Performance Coupe Award for convertibles, with the Huracán EVO Spyder beating the competition to win the accolade. The convertible version of the Huracán enhances the raw thrill of driving, heightening colours, smells and sounds with the roof down. Performance has been maintained too, with the V10 engine producing 640 hp, reaching a top speed of 325 km/h and going from 0-100 km/h in just over three seconds.
Coming out on top in the Best Midsized Performance SUV category was the Lamborghini Urus. The first Super Sports Utility Vehicle in the world, the Urus possesses the functionality of an SUV, yet maintains the integral soul of a sports car with a 650 hp V8 under the bonnet, a top speed of 305 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds.
Andrea Baldi, CEO of EMEA at Lamborghini said, “The past year has been a huge step forward for us at Lamborghini and for our entire model range: the V8 Urus, V10 Huracán and V12 Aventador. We have made major innovations that are evident in our super sports car ranges, as well as bringing a model to production of a type that didn’t previously exist – the Lamborghini Urus – and receiving these awards is a testament to the strength that our products encompass. In these trying times and in light of the current situation, we continue to work around the Lamborghini ethos which is about innovation and constantly exceeding benchmarks and expectations. We intend to continue this philosophy to ensure our continued success in the future not only in the Middle East, but around the world.
