Goodyear, one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers, is undertaking key renewable energy transformation steps in its manufacturing plants. Goodyear has installed a solar wall on its plant in Adapazarı for taking an important step towards its sustainability efforts. The project will help reduce the environmental footprint of the plant in addition to adding flexibility and power to energy management. The solar wall covers an area of 50 m2 and has been connected to one of the existing HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems to preheat the air. In this system, when the collector’s surface is heated by solar rays, the hot air is pulled inside through thousands of tiny holes on the surface and directed to the existing air inlet. This helps to reduce the amount of steam required for the heating unit by about 45 percent, which consequently will require the plant to consume less energy, reducing its CO2 emissions. The next phase of the project involves installing solar panels on the rooftop of the Adapazarı plant. Depending on the atmospheric conditions, these panels will help the factory meet a significant part of its energy needs. “The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company had announced plans to switch to 100% renewable electricity at its plants in Türkiye,” said Mahmut Sarıoğlu, General Manager of Goodyear Turkey, about the project. “As an essential part of these plans, our project highlights the importance attached to a vision of sustainability by Goodyear. I would like to thank my valuable teammates who have put their efforts in this important project as the key members of the Goodyear family.” The EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region of Goodyear is a key driver in advancing the company’s sustainability efforts. As part of these efforts, the company’s plants in Europe have already started using fully renewable electricity.
