Leading automotive manufacturer, the Renault-Nissan Alliance has announced that the company is acquiring the Sylpheo, a French software-development company in order to expedite its mobility services and connected vehicle programs. The announcement about the deal was made by Ogi Redzic, Alliance Senior Vice President of Connected Vehicles and Mobility Services.
Redzic said that as an outcome of the alliance, the Alliance will have access to the Sylpheo team of software developers and cloud engineers who will work on the company’s next generation of connected cars and other advanced technologies. The Sylpheo team will thus play a key role in the Nissan-Renault Alliance’s effort to take a leadership position in an era when the automotive industry is experiencing tremendous change. The financial terms fo the deal were not disclosed.
The Renault-Nissan Alliance had announced plans to launch over 10 models with autonomous drive technology by 2020. Use on connected car technology on a large scale will help the company to transform the ownership experience, ramp up business efficiency and to offer innovative new services to customers.
The acquisition of Sylpheo is the Alliance’s latest step in its drive to forge ahead in the segment of autonomous cars. After Redzic was appointed as the Alliance Senior Vice President of Connected Vehicles and Mobility Services in January, the Renault-Nissan Alliance which is the fourth largest car group in the world launched a recruitment campaign to attract 300 technology experts to its team.
According to Redzic, Sylpheo has a team of 40 engineers and consultants whose expertise in software development and cloud engineering will be a boon to the Renault-Nissan Alliance. They are expected to help develop technology that will translate into better products and services for the company’s customers and increase the efficiency of its business. The Sylpheo deal is just one of the many steps the Renault-Nissan Alliance is taking to sustain its continued innovation leadership in the automotive industry
