Ford Performance has announced that the company will be extending the production run of the Ford GT for another two year, giving all fans of the supercar cause to rejoice. This announcement comes in the wake of the company’s decision to race the model in both the WEC (World Endurance Championship) and the IMSA races for four years.
Speaking about the decision, Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance said that though the company will not be able to meet the needs of all the customers who have tried to book a Ford GT, extending production for two more years will go a long way towards satisfying more loyal Ford customers. Though Ford wants to retain the “exclusive” image of the GT, the company is aware of the important role the supercar has played in boosting its image.
The GTs produced in the third year of production will be shipped to those customers who were earlier on the wait list. Those whose applications were deferred and those who missed the first application window will have a chance to get their GT in its fourth year of production. Customers who want to try applying for a GT can do so in early 2018, while those who applied earlier to own the car just have to update their request.
Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, product development, and chief technical officer said, “Ford GT has racing in its blood” He added that both the road and racecar versions will continue to exist side-by-side, for the next four years giving the Ford team plenty of chances to test and prove innovative new technologies both on and off the track.
