Evo magazine has selected the Bugatti Chiron as the best hypercar of the year for 2017. The car was chosen on the basis of its outstanding performance and its ability to race from 0 to 124 mph (its restricted top speed) in just 6.5 seconds. This is a performance that no other car could match. Without any restrictions, it could reach a top speed of 280 mph. The quad-turbo 8-liter V16 engine has an output of 1479 bhp and 1180 lb ft of torque. The Chiron also justifies the tag of hypercar when it comes to price – with a pricetag of GBP 2.1 million ..and this does not take taxes into account.
The performance of the car is matched by interiors that are highly luxurious and an exterior that is notable for its typical Bugatti elements like the full-width taillight and the partially exposed engine as well as its functional design elements.
The jury for the Evo award explained that the Chiron does not confirm to the typical rules for a supercar or a hypercar and created the new category “Hypercar of the Year” especially for the Chiron. They said that the Chiron totally transforms the perception of speed with its level of performance. Though the Chiron might not exactly be a car that is suitable for the road, it certainly impressed the members of the jury.
This was the 19th edition of the Evo Car of the Year Awards and the category “Hypercar of the Year” was created for the first time this year.
