Borgward is a relative newcomer in the UAE market and the company held extensive trials of its new SUV, the BX7 in the runup to its launch in the region. The BX7 will be one of the first models that the Borgward Group AG will be launching in the GCC.
Borgward has announced that it has just completed the first series of extensive road tests of the UAE to ensure that it will provide customers with a cool ride even during the most intense summer heat. The model’s temperature test was held from August 2 to 12 when noontime temperatures were at their peak. There were even occasions when there was no wind at all in the Al Aweer desert to alleviate the heat.
During the tests, the BX7 demonstrated its superior engine power and manoeuvrability when taken on drives through the hills and deserts in the region. The iAWD (Intelligent All Wheel Drive) system was highly useful in tackling the tough terrain. The iAWD effectively combines BorgWarner’s 5th generation 4WD technology and TRW’s intelligent electronic stability control system. The technology from Borgward’s global partner proved to be highly effective in providing the vehicle with outstanding safety, reliability and off-road performance.
Commenting on the trials, Philipp Schimitt, Chief Electrical Engineer of BORGWARD Group AG said that the company’s engineering team is conducting local testing in the UAE to ensure that the BX7 is technically perfect for its launch in the Middle East. He added that the pre-launch testing was part of the company’s comprehensive pre-launch strategy as it moves into what is a key market.
During trials in the Al Aweer desert, the BORGWARD BX7 proved to be a champion in the scorching heat. The AC system proved to be perfectly cool on all drives ranging from a trip from Dubai to Al Ain, to s steep climb up the Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah. The BX7 met all criterial with regard to exhaust temperature, coolant, engine oil, engine intake air temperature control, thermal management, warm start at maximum temperature and thermal protection of supercharger in tests of static A/C performance, A/C performance when running, mountain climbing and idling performance.
There were no issues with regard to AC performance, the OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) or the control system whether the vehicle was idling, cruising on the highway or negotiating sand dunes. Even when tackling the highest mountain in the UAE, Jebel Jais on a long and uphill drive, it was possible to maintain a cool cabin temperature with no increased heat or overheating of the engine.
“The engineering team has conducted numerous tests covering the length and breadth of the UAE, testing the BX7 on different road conditions, environment and temperatures. Checking on key performance under the August sun has been an ideal opportunity for us to demonstrate the capabilities of the vehicle under local conditions.” Commented Schimitt.
