Aston Martin has taken its Innovation Partnership with Red Bull Racing to the next level by announcing that the Formula One team will participate from 2018 in races as ‘Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’.
The successful partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing has already led to high demand for the for the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, and is expected to lead to the development of future products. A new Advanced Performance Centre is slated to open on the Red Bull Racing campus in Milton Keynes later in September. Aston Martin will also consider the possibility of becoming involved in the team’s power unit from 2021 after being asked by the FIA to join discussions on future engines for F1.
Commenting on the partnership, Aston Martin President and CEO, Andy Palmer, said that title partnership was the next logical step for the company’s Innovation Partnership with Red Bull Racing. He said that the company has benefited from increase in global brand awareness that Formula One provided. He said that Aston Martin would be interested in thee power unit discussions if the FIA can create the right environment.
The relationship between Aston Martin, Red Bull Racing and AF Racing began in 2016 after the partners collaborated on creating a ground breaking hypercar using cutting edge F1 technology and Aston Martin’s signature sports car design. The Aston Martin Valkyrie, sold out as soon as it was launched and is just the first in a line of incredible products that are expected to result from this Innovation Partnership. It will make its first run in 2018 before being delivered to customers in 2019.
The new Advanced Performance Centre is expected to create 110 new jobs, and will also accommodate Aston Martin’s second dedicated design centre and engineering staff who will work on future sports cars. The new centre will also facilitate a closer working relationship between the two leading brands in their respective fields when it comes to the adoption of both F1 and road car technology.
Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull Racing said that right from the beginning the team’s Innovation Partnership with Aston Martin was a pioneering project. The two parties have now extended their relationship after collaborating and successfully developing the Valkyrie in 2016. With the team racing as Aston Martin Red Bull Racing in 2018, the partnership will become even stronger.
As part of the partnership, more than 100 Aston Martin staff will service the new Advanced Performance Centre on Red Bull racing’s campus in Milton Keynes and this will allow Red Bull racing to collaborate further with Aston Martin on special and innovative new projects.
