Al Majid Motors Company, which is the sole distributor for KIA Motors in the UAE, used the 3rd International Conference on Future Mobility (ICFM) to debut KIA’s ‘Niro HEV’, which is a dedicated hybrid sports utility vehicle. The conference which is being held at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai is being held from 7th to 8th November 2017 and is the largest and most influential annual gathering of leaders in the field of smart, clean, intelligent and connected mobility in the region.
The theme of the conference this year is ICFM, ’Towards Sustainable and Intelligent Mobility’ and the Niro HEV complements this theme perfectly as the Niro is one of the few hybrid crossover SUVs that are available globally. The Niro uses an advanced parallel hybrid system that switches easily between gasoline and electric power, and charges the battery whenever it can. The system is highly responsive and reduces carbon emissions to a highly respectable level of 88 g/km while achieving class-leading efficiency.
The KIA Niro HEV is powered by a new Kappa 1.6-litre GDJ engine, which has an output of 105ps at 5,700 rpm and peak torque of 15.0 kg m at 4,000rpm. The engine works in tandem with the Niro hybrid system, which can offer a combined maximum output of 141 ps. The permanent magnet electric motor can produce up to 43.5ps on its own, and the electric motor also assists the gasoline engine in hybrid mode and recharges the battery during deceleration.
Using a hybrid vehicle can significantly reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce fuel bills and reduce our carbon footprint. Another point in the Niro’s favour is that it is a lightweight and dynamic vehicle that is ideal for both highway and city driving.
The vehicle comes with a wide range of advanced safety and convenience features for the modern day consumer like a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Dual-Zone Full Auto Temperature Cooling Control, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-Start Assist Control, Parking Assist and Wireless Smart Phone Charging, among many others. Depending on their tastes, consumers can choose the external colors and interior packages.
Kia has the long-term goal of launching over 39 new and revamped models before 2020, and all of these will feature the latest engine technology, innovative safety features and the very best interior refinements. The advanced features within will be matched by eye-catching exterior design concepts.
