You are never too old for video games. But a video game that involves pushing sausages around. That is precisely what Stephen’s Sausage Roll is all about. It would be manlier to toss sausages on the grill and just burn them, but this game is a lot more fun than expected. There are plenty of burners scattered on the stages and the goal is to move the sausages onto the burners to cook them. However, you have to watch out for many things including not cooking the same side twice.
The core idea is simple. Stephen and his fork can be controlled with the arrow keys. You can undo moves at any time and restart or exit a particular level with just a keystroke. There are different sections, with each dealing with a different aspect of interacting with the sausages.
New concepts are introduced in an interesting manner and players have plenty of chances to “discover” things that can be key to winning the next levels. The levels are designed in such a manner that there is a natural progression. Though this is one really hard puzzle game, it is fair and needs high levels of out-of-the box thinking. There is lots of content and everything is designed to help the player negotiate and tackle challenges as they increase in complexity. The game also tells a story as it moves along and eventually, everything falls into place, though there are great twists and turns till you get there. Stephen’s Sausage Roll is available on Linux, Mac and Windows platforms.
