Billed as the thinnest laptop in the world at 10.4mm thick, the HP Spectre was launched in June in Dubai and poses a formidable threat to Apple’s MacBook and MacAir. With a stylish design, that has been inspired by women’s jewelry and purses, the laptop is indeed the thinnest notebook on the market and is quite light too, at 2.45 pounds. It is compactly made of a combination of metal and carbon fiber and comes with stylish tapered copper accents. The piston-style hinge derived from upmarket furniture gives the 13.3-inch Gorilla Glass screen the appearance of almost floating above the keyboard.
The only disadvantage is a non-touch screen to minimize the thickness, but this is offset by the brighter screen colors, springy keys that need only a light touch and reasonably good Bang & Olufsen speakers.
Spectre users can choose from models with sixth-gen Core i5 or i7 processors, helped by up to 8GB of RAM and PCIe solid-state drives with up to 512 gigs of storage. There are three USB Type-C connections, two of which support Thunderbolt. The battery provides approximately nine and a half hours of runtime thanks to a unique four-cell design, in which the battery is split into smaller, thinner pieces for better use of the available space.
