A car manufacturer based in the UAE, Sandstorm, has announced that it would be shortly launching “Al Reem” which is billed as the first Emirati 4X4 SUV. The company would be first launching the vehicle in the local market and then make it available in the rest of the Arab region by 2019.
Sandstorm held a press conference at Al Forsan Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi to announce the launch. The vehicle will have an initial production run of 1000 units and this would be followed by production of 6000 cars in phase II. Sandstorm also announced that it would be launching its pickup, (S24) this year.
The press conference was attended by may eminent Emirati dignitaries including sheikhs and Excellencies.
Dr. Magida AlAzazi, CEO of Sandstorm said that the company was proud of its great achievement and of being the first factory in the UAE that would specialize in the manufacture of various models of 4X4 vehicles. The factory was set up in 2017 after thorough research about its design and production capacity. It has been engaged in production of vehicles for the past five years by contracting international
Sandstorm makes vehicles at its factory according to Gulf Specifications and they come off the production line after several tests are run through a reputable German company. Currently, the production line has the capacity to make 1000 cars on an annual basis. The output of the factory would gradually increase to 6000 Al Reem vehicles and S24 cars per year by the second quarter of 2019 once the new factory opens.
Dr. AlAzazi also felt that the establishment of the Sandstorm factory marks a significant step in attracting international automotive manufacturers to the country. Currently, the automotive sector contributes to the development of the local industries sector and places Emirates in a leading role in the region.
Dr AlAzazi added that the company has received a lot of offers from Egyptian, French and Indian companies to open branches for their feeding industries. She said, “We intend to keep building more factories in the future in the field of automotive manufacturing.”
Explaining why the company chose the name Sandstorm, she said it signified the power and strength of the car and its powerful performance off road. Many countries in the region have a significant geographical area that needs to be covered offroad.
“The logo was designed according to the good omen of “Al Reem” the wild gazelle that is spread in the region and especially in Abu Dhabi.”
She said that future cars made by Sandstorm will carry names of Arab Gazelles from the region like AL Reem, Al Dimany and others.
