Continental has commenced production of tires at its greenfield facility in Rayong, Thailand.
The plant which required an investment of 250 million Euros was formally opened on schedule two years after the company broke ground for the facility. It is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and has the capacity to make about four million passenger and light truck tires on an annual basis. The output of the plant will be sold locally and exported to countries in the APAC region like Japan, China, Laos and India.
Commenting on the new plant, Nikolai Setzer, member of the executive board of Continental and head of the tire division said that the investment in the Rayong plant is an important part of Continental’s tire division growth strategy – Vision 2025 – and will further improve the balance of the company’s global tire manufacturing footprint. It is expected to strengthen Continental’s tire production capacities for the Asia Pacific market and thus enhance the company’s ability to cater to its customers in the region.
Sirivan Koo-Amphorn, general manager of Continental’s sales organization in Thailand said that Continental is bringing over 140 years of expertise in tire manufacturing and advanced production technologies to Thailand. He added that having a production facility in Thailand will enable the company’s marketing team to be faster and closer to its customers, thus delivering high-quality premium tires ‘Made in Thailand’.
