Speaking about the renewal of the partnership, Michelin motorsport director Pascal Couasnon said that he was excited about producing tires for the new generation of World Rally Cars that will make their entry in the next season. They are expected to be more powerful and this will pose a fresh challenge to the Michelin team’s engineers as they will have to come up with tires that will not only support racing at higher speeds but will also be more versatile and safer.
WRC Promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla said that as the WRC prepares for an exciting new era, the continuation of its partnership with Michelin will further strengthen the series. Michelin has been winning world rallies from the time WRC was started over 40 years ago, and to this day, it has continued to win races, underlining the quality of Michelin tires.
Michelin’s collaboration with WRC goes back to the first WRC championship in 1973, and Michelin has provided tires for the competition for all seasons since then except four. For the last five years, contestants in the WRC have been allowed to use any brand of tires that has been registered with the FIA, and Michelin has been working closely with the factory teams to design the best possible tires for each entrant.
Michelin’s motorsport director, Couasnon said that there is a strong connection between the company’s collaboration with WRC and its tires for everyday motoring as the roads and tracks that are used for the WRC are those used by ordinary motorists.
