Bosch has recently announced its opening of a 51,667-square-foot technology facility in Pittsburgh in July next year in a mission to reinforce its commitment to the area, almost doubling its footprint in the region.
The development of the facility was propelled by the need to accommodate the growth of the German company’s business units, including its Research and Technology Center in Pittsburgh and its subsidiary Akustica, a premier expert in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) microphone products.
Mike Mansuetti, president, Robert Bosch LLC said in a statement that Bosch is experiencing constant, huge growth in several regions, and this is especially true in Pittsburgh. “We have been in this area for many years and have formed many successful collaborations with other companies and organizations, like Carnegie Mellon University. We look forward to continuing our presence in such an exciting, tech-focused part of the region, and adding to its growing reputation as a hub for innovation.”
The technology center will be located in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, renowned for its emerging technology and start-up economy. The building, which will be leased for seven years through Oxford Development’s 3 Crossings project, will combine several Bosch associates in the region into one location, housing initially around 140 associates.
According to Horst Muenzel, president and general manager, Akustica, their new facility is not just bigger, but also has enhanced lab space that boosts their product development and testing capabilities. He added that Akustica already offers microphones with best-in-class robustness, and now they would have extra capabilities to deliver higher quality and performance to meet the needs of their customers.
The 3 Crossings Project is a 16-acre mixed use development. Its creation started in 2011 as a response to the neighborhood’s desire for more organic growth within the area, and now accommodates facilities for a number of popular, high-tech firms.
Jiri Marek, senior vice president, Bosch Research and Technology Center, North America, said in a statement that this modern facility would offer their researchers and engineers with a world-class working environment tailored particularly to their needs. He added that this investment underlines Bosch’s commitment to attracting top talent from the Pittsburgh region and beyond to support their mission to develop the next-generation of solutions for a connected life.
Oxford Development claims that 3 Crossings is one of the biggest redevelopment projects in the region and offers a place for companies to think differently about the way they do business.
