Just recently, STMicroelectronics has taken part in Weifu High Technology Group’s Researching and Testing Institute of Engineering and Technology. The collaborative efforts between the two companies will focus on the development and study of automotive core solutions, consisting of automotive exhaust post-processing, intake systems, and diesel-engine fuel injection equipment (FIE).
On top of the outcomes of the fast growth of vehicle sales in China, the implementation of electronic control systems is mainly drive by ever-tightening emissions standards for vehicles, such as the China V standard already deployed in Shanghai and Beijing and due for national deployment by 2018. The two companies share their complementary talents to address both the needs of the industry and the government.
Xiaodong Wang, General Manager of Weifu, said in a statement that Weifu is one of China’s top domestic providers of engine core components and control solutions. “We have established good relationships and cooperation with many leading engine makers in China in diesel-engine fuel-injection equipment, engine air-intake systems, and exhaust after-treatment systems.”
In order to facilitate the collaboration, ST is slated to offer its newest automotive-semiconductor technology and solutions consisting of single- and multi-cylinder diesel injection control, general-purpose high- and low-side driving chips, and Power Architecture-based 32-bit microcontrollers, along with the proper related application notes, development tools, reference designs, training and technical support.
Wang concluded that with the increasing automated control technology in automotive applications and the development of China’s emission standard for vehicles, collaboration across disciplines becomes required.
