The Range Rover Velar is now even more desirable, sustainable and intelligent with the introduction of an electric plug-in hybrid option***, advanced new infotainment technology and elegant new design features.

The mid-size luxury SUV, which sits between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport in the family line-up, offers customers the perfect balance of design and technology – now with electric power. The new 2.0-litre four-cylinder P400e* plug-in hybrid offers a smooth and refined drive, producing a combined 404PS and 640Nm of torque from its 300PS petrol engine and 105kW electric motor, with an impressive 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds (0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds). A 17.1Wh lithium-ion battery, located under the boot floor, can be charged to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes†† using a fast DC charge point, or 1 hour 40 minutes using a standard 7kW wallbox. With zero tailpipe emissions in electric mode, an impressive real-world all-electric range of 53km (33 miles),** fuel economy of up to 2.2 litres/100km** (130.2mpg) and CO2 emissions from just 49g/km**, the Range Rover Velar is now even more sustainable by design.

A new family of 3.0-litre straight-six Ingenium engines is also introduced to the Range Rover Velar for the first time. The latest generation of smooth and efficient petrol and diesel* engines are available with 48-volt mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) technology for reduced fuel consumption and heightened refinement. The new straight-six engines, developed in-house, are available as D300* (300PS diesel) and P340 (340PS) and P400 (400PS) petrol all-wheel drive variants, each fitted with air suspension as standard for signature Range Rover comfort.

The new engines are available with mild-hybrid electric vehicle technology (MHEV) in addition to the latest engine technologies, for efficient performance. The MHEV system uses a Belt integrated Starter Generator (BiSG) in the engine bay to harvest energy usually lost under deceleration, which is then stored in a 48V lithium-ion battery located beneath the rear loadspace. It is able to redeploy the stored energy to assist the engine when accelerating away, while also delivering a more refined and responsive stop/start system.

The new P340 and P400 straight-six engines generate 480Nm/550Nm torque respectively, while the powerful P400 delivers an impressive 0-60mph time of 5.2 seconds (0-100km in 5.5 seconds.) Both engines feature an electric supercharger supported by a twin scroll turbocharger and Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL), for refined performance.

The D300* diesel generates 650Nm torque, offering 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds (0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds) with fuel economy of up to 38.2mpg (7.4litres/100km) and CO2 from 194g/km. Series sequential turbos and an advanced after-treatment system make  it one of the world’s leading clean diesel engines.

The new in-line Ingenium diesel* engine designs meet Real Driving Emissions Step 2 (RDE2) standards and Euro 6d-final real-world driving compliance with 48V Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology boosting responses and fuel economy. As a result, the new Ingenium diesel unit – also now available in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport – is one of the world’s leading clean diesel engines.

Additionally, the next generation four-cylinder Ingenium D200 (204PS diesel)* is introduced on the Range Rover Velar, offering more power, lower CO2 and improved fuel economy. The engine is offered with the same 48-volt mild hybrid technology as the rest of the range, with CO2 from 165g/km** and fuel economy of up to 44.9mpg (6.3 litres/100km)**.

Velar features a reductive design, emphasised with beautifully integrated digital screens that are now fitted with Land Rover’s state-of-the-art infotainment system, Pivi and Pivi Pro. The intelligent and intuitive system, offered as Pivi ProΔ from an S-specification pack, transforms the digital experience inside Velar.

Pivi is designed around ease of use, with a simple interface reducing the number of interactions to enhance safety. Crisp new graphics and super-fast responsiveness are enabled with a new electrical architecture under the surface, ensuring the screens and navigation system are ready to go in seconds, thanks also to a dedicated power source. Customers can access software updates ‘over-the-air’ reducing the need to visit a retailer. Bluetooth connectivity is also available for two phones at once.

Nick Rogers, Executive Director, Product Engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The Range Rover Velar’s name and bloodline dates back to the code name of the original Range Rover prototypes. It has been fifty years since the introduction of the pioneering Range Rover in 1970, and now every family member is electrified with our awesome plug-in hybrid technology. Electrified powertrains and cleaner mild hybrid diesel engines* mean the Velar is an even more efficient and sustainable option for our customers. Jaguar Land Rover’s new Electrical Vehicle Architecture – EVA 2.0 – supports the new Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment, as well as Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA), and a whole suite of advanced driver assistance systems, cameras and clean-air technology, making the Range Rover Velar cleaner, safer and smarter than ever before and one of the most technologically advanced luxury SUVs in the world.”

The experience inside the Range Rover Velar is now an even calmer sanctuary with the addition of Active Road Noise Cancellation****. The intelligent technology works like a pair of high-end noise cancellation headphones, constantly monitoring vibrations from the road surface and calculating the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by the occupants. The effect is subtle, but the minimum reduction of 4 decibels ensures an even more refined and calming interior space. The system is even able to adjust the level and position of sounds played into the cabin based on the number of passengers and their position inside the vehicle by using the seatbelt sensors. This advanced system delivers a more serene experience inside Velar, even reducing driver tiredness, which can be brought about by extended exposure to low-frequency sound on long journeys.

A new Cabin Air Filtration system enhances the relaxing and clean sanctuary inside Velar, reducing levels of harmful particulates, pollen and even odours. The new system – introduced in addition to the existing Cabin Air Ionisation feature – filters out fine particulate matter, allergens, pollen and even strong smells. Activated via a ‘Purify’ button in the lower touchscreen, it is capable of filtering ultrafine particulates (up to and even below PM2.5). Drivers and passengers can be assured the air they breathe inside the Range Rover Velar is cleaner than the air outside.

Also available is the new second-generation wearable Activity Key, which can totally replace the traditional key fob when necessary. The water-resistant and shock-proof wrist device now incorporates an LCD watch and allows customers to start, stop, lock and unlock the vehicle, with no need to take a traditional key fob out with them.

Additional new design features introduced on Velar include a new steering wheel design which has integrated smart buttons ready to receive the latest ADAS software updates over-the-air. A tactile new Drive Selector also replaces the rotary gear selector.

The ‘Range Rover Velar Edition’ provides even more customer choice and features a combination of exterior and interior upgrades. Based on the R-Dynamic SE specification, enhancements include a black contrast roof and matching 20-inch black alloy wheels, for sophisticated presence. The distinctive new special edition model is available exclusively in Lantau Bronze metallic paint, as well as the new Hakuba Silver, Santorini Black or Eiger Grey.

The Range Rover Sport – Land Rover’s most dynamic model ever – has gained a suite of upgrades to enhance its appeal as the ultimate luxury performance SUV.

New special-edition models join the existing line-up with the HSE Silver, HSE Dynamic Black and SVR Carbon Edition giving Range Rover Sport buyers more choice than ever. The HST gains another powerful engine option with a new D350 diesel.

The D350 is just one of the latest generation of Land Rover’s new six-cylinder Ingenium diesel engines. They bring 48V Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) diesel technology to the Range Rover Sport for the first time and are RDE2-certified. Developed in-house, the new in-line engine is available in D250, D300 and D350 variants[1], with power outputs ranging from 249PS (183kW) to 350PS (258kW). They replace the V6 and V8 diesels.

The SV Premium Palette paint colour range, which makes lustrous colours and Satin finishes available to all Range Rover Sport customers, has been refreshed with eight new colours including Tourmaline Brown, Amethyst Grey-Purple and Petrolix Blue.

Inside, the purposeful cabin design and elegant details provide an undeniable sense of sporting luxury, while the seamlessly integrated Touch Pro Duo infotainment features enhance connectivity.

Prof Gerry McGovern OBE, Land Rover Chief Creative Officer, said: “The Range Rover Sport is a unique statement of performance with an assertive and powerful design. Its refined appearance speaks to the modernity of the Range Rover family, while a series of unique aesthetic touches mark out its sporting nature. This is an SUV that demands your attention.”

Key to the Range Rover Sport’s appeal is its sophisticated design, all-round capability and luxurious interior. The HSE Silver edition builds on the generous specification of HSE with a suite of sophisticated Shadow Atlas exterior trim finishes, Privacy Glass and 21-inch Gloss Black and contrast diamond-turned alloy wheels fitted as standard.

Available with seven exterior colour options, including new Lantau Bronze and Hakuba Silver, and two interior choices, the HSE Silver also benefits from a fixed panoramic roof, Privacy Glass, front centre console cooler compartment and Meridian Surround Sound System**. The HSE Silver is available with the most popular petrol or diesel engine for each market and a P400e PHEV powertrain in some markets.

The new HSE Dynamic Black is based on the HSE Dynamic and features an exterior Black Pack, giving the Range Rover Sport extra road presence with matching 21-inch Gloss Black alloy wheels, Privacy Glass and an all-black interior.

Finished in Santorini Black or Carpathian Grey with contrast roof, the HSE Dynamic Black edition also benefits from a fixed panoramic roof, Ebony Premium Headlining and Meridian Surround Sound System as standard.

For high-performance customers, the 575PS (423kW) SVR Carbon Edition provides a stealthy take on the flagship of the Range Rover Sport family with extensive Carbon Fibre detailing.

The Carbon Edition features an exposed Carbon Fibre bonnet centre section, front bumper insert surrounds, main grille and vent surrounds, as well as a range of other Carbon Fibre exterior design details, Carbon Fibre interior trim finishers, Exclusive SVR Carbon Edition treadplates, a Carbon Fibre Engine Cover and 22-inch Gloss Black alloy wheels.

Power and efficiency

Alongside the existing range of powerful and refined petrol engines are the latest six-cylinder Ingenium diesel engines that are smoother, more refined and more efficient than the engines they replace.

The new in-line designs meet Real Driving Emissions Step 2 (RDE2) standards and Euro 6d-final real-world driving compliance with 48V Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology boosting responses and fuel economy. As a result, the new Ingenium unit is one of the world’s leading clean diesel engines.

All the engines available play to the Range Rover Sport’s high-performance character, with the new D350 diesel powering the luxury performance SUV from 0-60mph in just 6.5 seconds
(0-100km/h 6.9 seconds). With an impressive torque output of 700Nm, strong responses remain at the core of the Range Rover Sport experience and, with CO2 emissions of just 237g/km for the most powerful D350, customers gain traditional V8 diesel performance with six-cylinder efficiency.

Strong performance is backed up by an engaging drive that strikes a fine balance between dynamism and comfort. The Range Rover Sport’s advanced all-wheel drive and air suspension both constantly adapt and respond to road conditions, providing driver feedback and involvement, while retaining the superior refinement that customers expect. Lightweight aluminium construction is a key factor behind the Range Rover Sport’s agile handling and dynamic responses.

The latest Range Rover Sport engine range comprises:

Diesel:[3]

  • D250 – 249PS (183kW), 3.0-litre six-cylinder MHEV, 600Nm of torque at 1,250rpm to 2,250rpm

  • P400 – 400PS (294kW), 3.0-litre six-cylinder, 550Nm of torque at 2,000rpm to 5,000rpm
  • P400e – 404PS (297kW), 2.0-litre four-cylinder PHEV, 640Nm of torque at 1,500rpm to 4,000rpm[4]
  • P525 – 525PS (386kW), 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged, 625Nm of torque at 2,500rpm to 5,500rpm
  • P575 – 575PS (423kW), 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged, 700Nm of torque at 3,500rpm to 5,000rpm

The plug-in hybrid electric P400e is the most fuel-efficient Range Rover Sport and can drive up to 26 miles (41km) in full electric mode with zero tailpipe emissions.

The powerful 300PS (221kW) Ingenium petrol engine combines with an 105kW electric motor for a combined 404PS (297kW), so performance is uncompromised. The PHEV powertrain accelerates the Range Rover Sport from 0-60mph in 6.3-seconds (0-100km in 6.7 seconds) while returning up to 86.9mpg (3.3l/100km) in WLTP tests.

Enhancements to connectivity and security are also available for 21 Model Year Range Rover Sport models. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered as standard across all models, while up to eight 4G Wi-Fi connections can be made[5], keeping the driver and passengers connected at all times.

Driver and passenger wellbeing has been enhanced with the Range Rover Sport’s Cabin Air Ionisation system, now with PM2.5 filtration. Simply controlled via a ‘Purify’ button within the touchscreen infotainment, the state-of-the-art set-up filters out fine dust particles and allergens, and neutralises odours, to provide a calm, relaxing, refined and healthy environment.

Range Rover today celebrates 50 years of pioneering innovation, peerless refinement and unparalleled all-terrain capability with the introduction of the new Range Rover Fifty.

The original luxury SUV has defined the market since 17 June 1970 and, five decades on, the Range Rover has evolved to become a family of desirable and capable luxury vehicles. Its compelling blend of design, refinement and engineering innovation has ensured its place as the benchmark for all luxury SUVs.

Over its 50 year lifespan, the Range Rover has achieved many world firsts and completed numerous impressive feats. It was the first SUV to feature a permanent 4WD system when it was launched, and in 1989 was the world’s first 4×4 to be fitted with ABS anti-lock brakes. Later in 1992 it became the world’s first 4×4 to be fitted with electronic traction control (ETC) and automatic electronic air suspension – ensuring the refined driving feel Range Rover is so famous for, both on and off-road. In 2012, the latest generation Range Rover became the world’s first SUV to feature an all-aluminium lightweight construction, making it lighter, stronger and more efficient.

It has crossed the notoriously impassable ‘Darien Gap,’ was the first vehicle to ever be displayed at the Louvre Museum in Paris, and has even won the Paris-Dakar rally – twice. No other vehicle combines the levels of luxury, comfort and sophistication with off-road capability and on-road performance like Range Rover.

With its clamshell bonnet, distinctive floating roof, split tailgate and trademark front fender vents, the Range Rover of today can still trace its roots back to the 1970 original. In its golden anniversary year it is now the most efficient, connected, luxurious and capable yet.

To celebrate 50 years of a motoring icon, the limited-run Range Rover Fifty will be restricted to just 1,970 vehicles globally, in recognition of the year the original Range Rover was launched.

Building on the luxuriously appointed Autobiography, the Range Rover Fifty features a number of bespoke exterior accents in Auric Atlas as well as two unique 22-inch wheel designs. The badging features a ‘Fifty’ script created personally by Prof Gerry McGovern OBE, Land Rover’s Chief Creative Officer, which will appear on the exterior of the vehicle and throughout the interior on the unique “1 of 1970” centre console commissioning plaque, headrests, dashboard and illuminated treadplates.

Prof Gerry McGovern OBE, Land Rover Chief Creative Officer, said: “In the world of luxury vehicles, the Range Rover has always stood apart as peerless and enduring.  Its unique and pioneering sensibilities together with an unrivalled engineering approach have been the intrinsic values which our customers have admired since the first of the breed was revealed in 1970.”

The Range Rover Fifty will be available in both standard and long wheelbase body designs with customers able to choose from four carefully curated exterior colours; Carpathian Grey, Rosello Red, Aruba, and Santorini Black. In extremely limited numbers, Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations is also offering the Range Rover Fifty in one of three Heritage exterior solid paints reproduced from the original Range Rover paint palette; Tuscan Blue, Bahama Gold and Davos White. Now in its fourth generation with over a million sold in its lifetime, the Range Rover is the ultimate expression of luxury. It’s unmistakable, sophisticated design and class-leading all-terrain capability has ensured the Range Rover is as peerless and relevant today as it was in 1970.

THE RANGE ROVER FAMILY

After three decades at the top of the luxury SUV sector, the Range Rover became a family in 2005 with the launch of the Range Rover Sport, a vehicle which combines the luxury and capability of the larger Range Rover with a sporty and engaging driving character. In 2010, the compact Range Rover Evoque made its debut, aimed at a younger and more urban customer base. In 2017, the family grew once again with the introduction of the Range Rover Velar, filling the space between the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. Taking its name from the first Range Rover prototypes, the Range Rover Velar broadened the Range Rover portfolio with a statement reductionist design and a technology-rich interior.

RANGE ROVER HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Today marks 50 years since the first Range Rover was revealed, but the story goes back even further. During the mid 1960s, in a bid to revolutionise the growing 4×4 leisure market, the Rover car company’s engineering chief for new vehicle projects, Charles Spencer ‘Spen’ King (nephew of the founders of Land Rover), hatched a plan to combine the comfort and on-road ability of a Rover saloon with the off-road ability of a Land Rover.

Development of the first 100-inch station wagon prototype began during the late 1960s, with the first model being released to the world’s media to critical acclaim in 1970. Its blend of ability – motorway cruising, off-roading, and even towing in style and comfort – ensured its instant popularity. The original Classic model was cited as an ‘exemplary work of industrial design’ when it became the first vehicle to be displayed at the world famous Louvre Museum in Paris in 1971.

The first generation Range Rover (1970-1996) was originally only available as a two door when it went on sale in 1970. During its 26 year lifespan the Classic continued to evolve with the introduction of the four-door model in 1981 and an automatic gearbox in 1982. The first diesel Range Rover arrived in 1986.

The second generation Range Rover known as the P38A arrived in 1994 and was instantly recognisable thanks to its familiar silhouette, floating roof, clamshell bonnet, practical split tailgate and continuous waistline; all of which continue to this day. The vehicle also displayed an even more luxurious interior without compromising on its on-road ability and off-road capability. It also featured enhanced height-adjustable suspension as well as a 2.5-litre diesel and 3.9 and 4.6-litre versions of the V8 petrol, providing greater performance than ever before.

The third generation Range Rover (2001-2012) delivered a wealth of improvements on all predecessors during its 11 year period. Engineering innovations included a stiffer monocoque body (replacing the traditional 4×4 ladder frame) and fully independent suspension with interconnected air springs (at the time nearly all 4x4s had rigid axles). The interiors of these vehicles were inspired by high-end yachts, fine furniture and first class airline seats, providing more space and luxury.

In 2012, the fourth generation and most recent Range Rover debuted. It was the first SUV to feature lightweight all-aluminium construction, saving 420kg in weight compared to its predecessor. Featuring a wealth of new off-road innovations such as automatic Terrain Response™ 2 and All-Terrain Progress Control, it has evolved to include efficient new electrified Ingenium engines, a plug-in hybrid electric version and innovative infotainment and safety technologies.

For the last five years the Range Rover SVAutobiography has been at the pinnacle of the model line-up, with the most powerful and refined vehicles in Range Rover’s history.  Produced by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division, customers can also choose from the Range Rover SVAutobiography and SVAutobiography Dynamic – which feature powerful V8 engines and finely crafted cabins.

Land Rover used the Dubai International Motor Show to make the regional debut of its new take on the iconic Range Rover, which is powered by its new six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine.
The Dubai International Motor Show is being held from 12 to 16 November and served as the perfect platform to introduce the new Range Rover that is positioned as a more responsive and better-balanced variant to a market where the model is highly popular.

It offers the optimal combination of luxury, dynamic on-road handling, and all-terrain capability that Land Rover is known for. The all-new in-line six-cylinder 3.0-litre petrol engine enhances the vehicle’s fuel economy, efficiency and performance and customers can opt for wither the 360PS version or the 400PS version.

Commenting on the new model Nick Rogers, Executive Director of Product Engineering said that Land Rover wanted Ingenium to be a full family right from the beginning and hence developed its very own flexible engine architecture to meet needs of various models. This makes it possible for Jaguar Land Rover to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to adapting to changes in regulation and technology. The second wave of engines, with a Mild Hybrid 48V system and performance-boosting technologies are meant to be cleaner and more efficient than ever before.

The all-new 400PS Ingenium engine delivers 550Nm of torque, making it possible for the vehicle to go from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds and to reach top speed of 225 km/h. The 360PS iteration delivers 495Nm of torque to propel the Range Rover from 0-100km/h in 6.9seconds and a top speed of 209km/h.

The new responsive six-cylinder engine offers a number of advanced features, like an electric supercharger for immediate power response. The supercharger can spool fully in just 0.5 seconds at up to 120,000rpm through a direct connection with the throttle, thus virtually eliminating turbo lag.

The engine is supported by a twin-scroll turbocharger and Continuous Variable Valve Lift, which enhance power and help the engine to deliver maximum efficiency. The six-cylinder engine’s design optimizes performance and fuel economy while reducing emissions.

These innovative technologies work in tandem with a new Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) powertrain that the new engine supports. Together, they deliver a combined fuel economy of 9.3-9.5/100km and CO2 emissions of 212-216g/km. This marks the latest advance Land Rover has made in meeting its commitment of offering an electrified option on all new models from 2020.

The clever system is based around an all-new Start-Stop system that switches off when stationery and pairs the latest 3.0-litre engine with an electric motor. This allows the system to harvest energy through regenerative braking and store it in a 48V battery for later use, as is the case when the vehicle is pulling away from a standing start.

The latest six-cylinder Ingenium engine was designed and developed in-house by Jaguar Land Rover, and will be made at Land Rover’s GBP 1 billion Engine Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, along with the current four-cylinder petrol and diesel units.

Bruce Robertson, Managing Director for Jaguar Land Rover MENA, said that the new Ingenium unit further builds on the promise to optimize efficiency in all operating conditions. Jaguar Land Rover is aware of how customers in this region appreciate the brand’s unique combination of high performance, ultra-luxury and high efficiency. The advanced features in the new vehicle, which include an electric supercharger will ensure distinctive Range Rover performance and responses, while the intelligent MHEV system conserves energy to boost fuel economy and reduce emissions.

Range Rover’s latest petrol engine brings a new driving dynamic to a model that oozes refinement and luxury. The latest Range Rover grabs attention with a more contemporary look, defined by a new front grille, front bumper and bonnet. Each complements the floating roofline and continuous waistline, while pixel-laser LED headlights give the model greater presence at any speed.

When it comes to the interiors, the meticulous attention to detail is highly visible. The interior is highly adaptable interior, with up to 1,943 liters of load space when the rear seats are folded flat. The driver can access Land Rover’s Touch Pro Duo infotainment system through two responsive 10” high-definition touchscreens as standard, and voice recognition makes access even safer.

When the vehicle is on the move, motorists have access to a wide range of intelligent assistive technologies like Cruise Control with a Speed Limiter, Lane Departure Warning and Front and Rear Parking Aids all of which are available as standard features. The new features which are seen in this model are the Hill Descent Control (HDC) for more precise control when tackling challenging slopes, and a Twin-Speed Transfer Box that provides the driver with additional lower gears for dealing with towing or challenging road surfaces.

Osram’s SMARTRIX modules which were developed in collaboration with Varroc Lighting Systems have been used to give a fresh and stylish look to the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport

The innovative SMARTRIX modules were first used in the Jaguar E-Pace, and Jaguar Land Rover has now opted to use the same lighting technology in the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. In these models, additional SMARTRIX modules are used to make the high beam even more defined and the low beam more dynamic. The matrix or pixel headlights provide optimum visibility and have the capability to illuminate specific areas of the road with high beam without affecting visibility for other road users by dazzling them. Customers can choose from three versions.

The premium version is the brightest headlight that is now available. The pixel laser LED option comes with 71 pixels and the Laser High Beam Booster has two first- generation Osram μLARP modules to increase the visual range for the driver. The SMARTRIX modules have a silicone lens system that gives greater flexibility to headlight designers and lends a modern look to the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

With its launch of its SMARTRIX modules Osram has made significant advances in the field of automotive lighting technology and thus improving road safety at night.

Commenting on Jaguar Land Rover’s choice of the SMARTRIX modules, Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO Specialty Lighting at Osram said that Osram has succeeded in taking smart lighting by teaming up with Varroc Lighting. Osram has increased the number of matrix modules and improved their functionality on the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport culminating in a headlight option that matchless. In tandem with Osram’s laser technology, the light output is five times greater than that of standard LED
headlights without dazzling other road users.

Most powerful smart headlight
The distinctive pixel laser LED headlight with LED signature and smart high beam is the premium option on the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. The 71-pixel system provides excellent illumination of the road ahead without dazzling oncoming drivers. When the speed is more than 50 mph, Osram’s laser technology automatically boosts the high beam, and illuminates the road up to 600 meters ahead. The μLARP modules each deliver 200 lm and 450 cd/mm2 and have a particularly high luminance.

SMARTRIX modules for new angular headlight designs
The SMARTRIX modules give more leeway to lighting designers as the long-life silicone optics enable the lighting system to be particularly small and compact. Designers were thus able to give the Range Rover Sport modern rectangular headlights to align with the current fashion of narrow low-profile units.

Innovative lighting technology
Jaguar Land Rover’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle and the luxury SUV are equipped with premium LED headlights as standard. Customers can opt to have the matrix LED package as additional feature. The headlights use 20 pixels to distribute the beam in vertical strips, each of which can be individually controlled. Oncoming vehicles can be masked out in order not to dazzle the drivers. One category higher is the pixel LED headlight which is equipped with a total of 71 pixels, these headlights provide dynamic lighting for the low-beam and high-beam areas. In addition to the vertical strips, the light beam is also split into horizontal strips so up to four oncoming vehicles can be masked out.
